  1. 1. Standardization of Islet Isolation and Transplantation Variables

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Andrew S Friberg; Uppsala universitet.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islet isolation; standardization; enzyme; gradient separation; digital imaging analysis; DIA; transplantation outcome; islet transplantation; prediction; MEDICINE Physiology and pharmacology Physiology Medical technology; MEDICIN Fysiologi och farmakologi Fysiologi Medicinsk teknik; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Abstract : Currently, the transplantation of islets of Langerhans is a viable means to maintain control of blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of hypoglycemia in defined populations with brittle type I diabetes mellitus or those requiring pancreatectomy. However, the process of islet isolation is highly variable and not all isolations result in islet numbers or quality suitable for transplantation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Flood Prediction in data-scarce basins Maximising the value of limited hydro-meteorological data

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : José Eduardo Reynolds Puga; Uppsala universitet.; [2019]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Floods; data scarcity; value of information; rainfall-runoff modelling; regionalisation; rainfall-forecasts; event-based calibration; climatological day; discharge day; temporal resolution; modelling time-step.; Databrist; flödestoppsbaserad kalibrering; högflöde; informationsvärde; klimatologiskt dygn; nederbörds-avrinningsmodell; modelltidssteg; regionalisering; regnprognos; tids-upplösning; vattenföringsdygn; översvämning.; Inundaciones; falta de datos; valor de información; modelos lluvia escorrentía; regionalización; pronósticos de lluvia; definición del día; resolución temporal; paso de tiempo.;

    Abstract : Floods pose a threat to society that can cause large socio-economic damages and loss of life in many parts of the world. Flood-forecasting models are required to provide simulations at temporal resolutions higher than a day in basins with concentration times smaller than 24 h. READ MORE

  3. 3. From Cell Shape to Body Shape: Epithelial Morphogenesis in Drosophila melanogaster

    University dissertation from Department of Experimental Medical Science, Lund Univeristy

    Author : Shai Mulinari; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Odd-skipped; morphogenesis; Hedgehog; segment boundaries; segmental grooves; Actin; Drosophila; DRhoGEF2; Myosin; Diaphanous; Rho GTPase; cytoskeleton; Rho1;

    Abstract : Embryonic development is associated with extensive rearrangements of tissues. The driving force for these rearrangements is generated by a dynamic reorganization of the Actin cytoskeleton of individual cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. Exercising the brain in pain : using fMRI to investigate intrinsic connectivity, cognition and pain regulation in fibromyalgia and how this is affected by physical exercise

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Clinical Neuroscience

    Author : Sofia Martinsen; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The aims of the studies of this thesis were to use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate cerebral activation patterns in fibromyalgia (FM) patients and healthy controls (HC) at rest, when performing the stroop colour word test (SCWT) and during pressure pain provocation. Distraction induced analgesia (DIA), performance on the SCWT and pressure pain sensitivity was investigated on the behavioural and psychophysical level. READ MORE
