  1. 21. Surface force studies of association phenomena at solid-liquid interfaces

    Author : Andra Dedinaite; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The main topics of this thesis, association phenomena inbulk and at solid-liquid interfaces in polar and non-polarmedia, were studied by a range of methods. Direct forcemeasurements employing the interferometric surface forceapparatus (SFA) was the chief technique. READ MORE

  2. 22. The Role of Molecular Heterogeneity in the Structural Dynamics of Aqueous Solutions

    Author : Sharon Berkowicz; Fivos Perakis; Giulio Monaco; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water; Aqueous solutions; X-ray scattering; X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy; Dynamic light scattering; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : The liquid-liquid critical point hypothesis suggests that liquid water exists in two liquid states with different local structures, so-called high- and low-density liquid (HDL, LDL). At ambient pressure water locally fluctuates between these two states, with the fluctuations becoming more pronounced as the liquid is supercooled. READ MORE

  3. 23. Association Phenomena in Aqueous Solutions of Surfactants and Hydrophobically Modified Polymers

    Author : Susanne Nilsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-diffusion; rheology; cellulose ethers; associating polymers; polymer-surfactant interactions; polymer network; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry;

    Abstract : Interactions between ionic surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate and dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride) and nonionic polymers ((hydroxyethyl)cellulose, ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose and their hydrophobically modified analogous) have been studied by means of rheology, pulsed field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG NMR), time-resolved fluorescence quenching (TRFQ), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM). In all experiments surfactants have been added in various amounts to polymer solutions at fixed concentrations. READ MORE

  4. 24. The Role of Molecular Heterogeneity in the Structural Dynamics of Aqueous Solutions

    Author : Sharon Berkowicz; Fivos Perakis; Anders Hedqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Aqueous solutions constitute the basis of life, yet their complex and anomalous nature is far from well-understood. Transient molecular ordering gives rise to microscopic spatial liquid heterogeneities and fluctuations which are believed to play a key role in biochemical processes as well as in pure water, the latter of which could fundamentally alter our view on water as life's solvent. 5. 25. Formation of Block Copolymer and Surfactant Vesicles

    Author : Karin Bryskhe; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymerteknik; Fysikalisk kemi; biopolymers; Polymer technology; nanoparticles; Lipid; triblock copolymer; surfactants; Nonionic; Vesicles; Formation; Physical chemistry;

    Abstract : In this thesis temperature induced vesicle formation in both a block copolymer system and nonionic surfactant system have been investigated. The block copolymer is a triblock copolymer of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO), PEO-PPO-PEO, with the average molecular composition of EO5PO68EO5 and the commercial trade name Pluronic L121 (papers I, II).
