  1. 1. DME and the Heavy Duty Diesel Engine

    Author : Henrik Salsing; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; combustion; diesel engine; Dimethyl Ether; fuel injection system; DME;

    Abstract : Increasing awareness of adverse anthropogenic environmental effects, such as the effectsof combusting fossil fuels on atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations, and thatcombustion-related emissions from the transportation sector are going to approachsustainable levels in the near future has led to increased interest in fuels from renewablesources. These fuels offer possibilities to diversify the feedstocks that can be used forfuel production, as well as to reduce fossil carbon dioxide emissions, thereby reducingour dependence on a very limited range of sources. 2. 2. DME Combustion in Heavy Duty Diesel Engines

    Author : Henrik Salsing; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : combustion; heavy duty; DME; dimethyl ether; Diesel engine;

    Abstract : Interest in alternative energy and fuels has grown considerably in recent years due to increasing concern about the adverse effects of global warming, the limited sources of non-renewable feedstocks, the insecurity of their supply and associated fluctuations in their prices. However, although there is an urgent, and widely recognized, need to address these issues, selecting suitable candidate feedstocks and fuels is far from straightforward, since numerous factors must be considered when selecting promising candidates for further evaluation and, ultimately, commercial use. 3. 3. Studies of the Selective Catalytic Reduction of Nitrogen Oxides with Dimethyl Ether

    Author : Stefanie Tamm; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gas phase reaction; isocyanate; DME; acidic zeolite; reaction mechanism; lean deNOx; NO2 formation;

    Abstract : Dimethyl ether (DME) is one of the most energy-efficient and low CO2 emitting alternative fuels when produced from biomass. Similar to other vehicles with combustion engines, vehicles running on DME will most likely need after-treatment technologies for the reduction of NOx emissions to meet the most stringent upcoming legislations. 4. 4. Lean NOx reduction by alternative fuels - with focus on catalysts for dimethyl ether

    Author : Sara U Erkfeldt; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biofuel; In2O3; lean NOx reduction; alumina; Cu-ZSM-5; Ga2O3; DME; hydrocarbon-SCR; alternative fuel; NOx storage; B2O3; Ag Al2O3;

    Abstract : There is an increased demand for diesel engines running on non-fossil fuels such as dimethyl ether (DME), biodiesel and synthetic diesel. DME is a promising alternative fuel with potential for high energy efficiency and low CO2 emissions. However, during all high temperature combustion NOx is formed, which may require exhaust aftertreatment. READ MORE

  5. 5. Rational bioenergy utilisation in energy systems and impacts on CO2emissions

    Author : Bertil Wahlund; KTH; []
    Keywords : CO2 reduction; energy system; biofuel; CHP; refining; fuel pellets; ethanol; methanol; DME; fuel substitution; sewage water; nitrification;

    Abstract : The increased concentration of greenhouse gases in theatmosphere, in particular CO2, is changing the Earth’s climate. Accordingto the Kyoto protocol, where the international community agreedon binding emission targets, developed countries are committedto reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. READ MORE
