  1. 16. Complex Chemistry Modeling of Diesel Spray Combustion

    Author : P. A. Niklas Nordin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The thesis illustrates the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to turbulent reactive two-phase flows in piston engines. The focus of the thesis lies on numerical simulations of spray combustion phenomena with an emphasis on the modeling of turbulence/chemistry interaction effects using a detailed chemistry approach. 2. 17. Hydrogen Generation for Fuel Cells in Auxiliary Power Systems

    Author : Marita Nilsson; Lars J. Pettersson; Gunther Kolb; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; autothermal reforming; auxiliary power unit; diesel; dimethyl ether; fuel cell; fuel-flexible reformer; hydrogen; PdZn alloy; reforming catalyst; reformer design; Rh; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Heavy-duty trucks are in idle operation during long periods of time, providing the vehicles with electricity via the alternator at standstill. Idling trucks contribute to large amounts of emissions and high fuel consumption as a result of the low efficiency from fuel to electricity. READ MORE

  3. 18. The Oxy-Fuel Process - Towards high efficient operation

    Author : Fredrik Normann; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Oxy-fuel O2 CO2 Combustion NOx Thermal-NO Co-production;

    Abstract : The power generation system is facing large changes to meet the demands on reduced emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2). Oxy-fuel combustion with capture of CO2 is a promising option to meet those demands. READ MORE

  4. 19. Lung cancer and occupational exposure to combustion products

    Author : Ann Olsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Lung cancer, the most common cause of cancer death, is predominantly attributable to tobacco smoking. One of the many carcinogenic components of tobacco smoke are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). READ MORE

  5. 20. CFD Modelling of a Free-Piston Engine Using Detailed Chemistry

    Author : Miriam Bergman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; free-piston; combustion; Diesel; compression ignition; chemical kinetics; HCCI; Computational Fluid Dynamics;

    Abstract : The Free Piston Engine, FPE, which is capable of operating in a variable compression ratio mode, is highly suitable for the promising Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) concept, allowing flexible auto-ignition control on a cycle-to-cycle basis without any hardware modifications. In this study, the effects of varying the start of injection on the emission formation and efficiency of such an engine have been investigated, using simulations based on the KIVA-3V CFD code.
