  1. 1. Radiation response in human cells : DNA damage formation, repair and signaling

    Author : Ann-Sofie Gustafsson; Bo Stenerlöw; Andrzej Wojcik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA damage; DNA repair; DSB; NHEJ; DNA-PK; ionizing radiation; heat-labile sites; Biomedical Radiation Science; Biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Ionizing radiation induces a range of different DNA lesions. In terms of mutation frequency and mammalian cell survival, the most critical of these lesions is the DNA double-strand break (DSB). DSB left unrepaired or mis-repaired may result in chromosomal aberrations that can lead to permanent genetic changes or cell death. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bacterial DNA repair and molecular search

    Author : Arvid H. Gynnå; Johan Elf; Stephen Kowalczykowski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA repair; DNA damage; homologous recombination; homologous repair; recombination; RecA; I-SceI; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : Surveillance and repair of DNA damage is necessary in all kinds of life. Different types of DNA damage require different repair mechanisms, but these mechanisms are often similar in all domains of life. The most serious type of damage, double stranded DNA breaks, are for example repaired in conceptually similar ways in both bacteria and eukaryotes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Induction and repair of clustered DNA damage sites after exposure to ionizing radiation

    Author : Andris Abramenkovs; Bo Stenerlöw; Peter O'Neill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NHEJ; DSB repair; clustered DNA damage; DNA repair; DNA-PKcs; HSCS; Ra-223; ionizing radiation; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : The mechanisms that maintain genomic stability safeguard cells from constant DNA damage produced by endogenous and external stressors. Therefore, this thesis aimed to specifically address questions regarding the requirement and involvement of DNA repair proteins in the repair of various types of radiation-induced DNA damage. 4. 4. The consequences of DNA lesions for mitochondrial DNA maintenance

    Author : Josefin M. E. Forslund; Sjoerd Wanrooij; Nasim Sabouri; Erik Johansson; Claes Gustafsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mitochondria; mitochondrial DNA; DNA replication; DNA lesions; DNA polymerase γ; ribonucleotide incorporation; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Eukaryotic cells have their own energy-producing organelles called mitochondria. The energy is stored in the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) molecule and is produced via the oxidative phosphorylation process inside the mitochondria. Thirteen of the essential proteins required for this process are encoded on the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). READ MORE

  5. 5. Structural and dynamical basis of NusA´s role in transcription-coupled DNA repair

    Author : Damasus Okeke; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Resonance assignment; DNA repair; transcription-repair coupling factors; transcription-coupled repair; NusA; DinB; UvrD; autoinhibition; DNA substrate; dynamics.;

    Abstract : DNA repair processes involves a host of repair machineries that are able to recognize and repair the damaged DNA. Nucleotide excision repair (NER) pathway is one of these processes exploited by cells to remove bulky DNA lesions. READ MORE
