11. Systematic Modular Approaches to Reveal DNA Damage Responses in Mammalian Cells
Abstract : Cancer therapy operates by inflicting damage in malignant cells. The most lethal target is the genomic DNA. As a single double strand DNA break has the potential to kill the cell, mechanisms have evolved to detect and block propagation of the damage. READ MORE

12. DNA repair by HDR in experimental tumorigenesis
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to further understand how defects in the homology-directed repair (HDR) pathway affect tumor formation and development. To study proteins involved in HDR is challenging since most of its members are required for cell viability. READ MORE

13. DNA repair and genome organisation in mammalian cells : studies involving single-cell electrophoresis
Abstract : The comet assay (single-cell electrophoresis) is a comparably new method for measurement of DNA strand breakage, primarily in eukaryotic cells. Its main advantage is that it works on the single-cell level, making it possible to detect heterogeneity in DNA damage induction and repair. READ MORE

14. Molecular factors relevant to the radiosensitivity of human tumours
Abstract : Oncogenes, activated copies of normal cellular genes, are involved in carcinogenesis and have been suggested to be determinants of cellular radiosensitivity (RS). Mutations and gene rearrangement of c-Ha-RAS and c-MYC oncogenes were analysed in 70 biopsies and 51 blood samples from the same patients and compared with RS estimated by the clinical tumour response and by response to irradiation of tumour samples using subrenal capsule assay. 15. WRAP53β and scaRNA2 on their journey to repair the DNA
Abstract : WRAP53β is a multifunctional protein involved in several cellular processes like Cajal body formation, telomere maintenance and DNA repair. WRAP53β is responsible for targeting factors to specific cellular locations, and its very high affinity for the scaRNAs could implicate these molecules in similar biological functions. READ MORE
