  1. 1. DNA ploidy, proliferation markers and prognosis in malignant melanoma

    Author : Margareta Karlsson; Christer Lindholm; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Malignant melanoma is a serious disease when metastases occur. It is therefore important to investigate possible tools for prediction to the outcome of the disease. In the present investigation 265 patients with cutaneous malignant melanoma and uveal melanoma was investigated with flow cytometry. READ MORE

  2. 2. Prognostic factors in prostate cancer with special reference to the effect of hormonal therapy

    Author : Göran Ahlgren; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urology; neuroendocrine differentiation; tumour cell proliferation; DNA-ploidy; prostate cancer; prognostic factors; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : We have used image cell analysis to analyse nuclear DNA content on fine needle aspiration biopsies from 96 patients diagnosed to have prostate cancer 1980-81. By stratifying diploid and tetraploid tumours according to a cytometric proliferation index (PI), we suggest a new DNA-classification that is prognostic of death from prostate cancer in multivariate analysis including conventional prognostic factors. Abstract : From January, 1988, to December, 1993, 113 patients with FIGO stage IA-IIC epithelial ovarian carcinoma were treated with postoperative radiotherapy. The median follow-up period was 74 months. Tumor recurrences were recorded in 33 cases (30%). The cancer-specific survival rate was 72%. READ MORE

  4. 4. Long-term survival and prognostic factors in endometrial cancer - a populationbased cohort study

    Author : Teresia Svanvik; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endometrial cancer; relative survival; DNA ploidy; s-phase fraction; p53; socioeconomic inequality; early detection;

    Abstract : Aims: The over-all aims of this thesis were to evaluate the associations between prognostic factors and excess mortality rate, between socioeconomic and immigrant status and incidence rate, in endometrioid (EEC) and non-endometrioid (NEC) endometrial carcinoma. Material and methods: Study I-III were retrospective population-based cohort studies including women resident in a defined geographical area, with endometrial carcinoma. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ploidy, cell proliferation and apoptosis in lymphoid malignancies : methodological and clinical aspects

    Author : Magdalena Czader; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : image cytometry; confocal cytometry; DNA ploidy; cell proliferation; ;

    Abstract : The DNA aneuploidy and proliferative activity have been previously shown to carry a clinical significance in Iymphoid malignancies. However, the application of these parameters is complicated by methodological difficulties. READ MORE
