  1. 6. Strategies for de novo DNA sequencing

    Author : Anna Blomstergren; KTH; []
    Keywords : DNA sequencing; DNA purification; automation; solid-phase; streptavidin; biotin; modular probes; Helicobacter pylori; cag PAI;

    Abstract : The development of improved sequencing technologies hasenabled the field of genomics to evolve. Handling andsequencing of large numbers of samples require an increasedlevel of automation in order to obtain high throughput andconsistent quality. READ MORE

  2. 7. The Light-up Probe

    Author : Nicke Svanvik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; asymmetric cyanine dyes; light-up probes; PNA; real-time PCR; LightUp Probe; fluorescent hybridization probes; homogeneous hybridization assays;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development of light-up probes and their potential applications in PCR based molecular diagnostics. The light-up probe is a nucleic acid analog (here PNA) oligomer linked to an asymmetric cyanine dye (here thiazole orange) and it combines the excellent hybridization properties of PNA with the large fluorescence enhancement of the dye upon binding to DNA. 3. 8. Genotyping RNA and DNA using padlock probes

    Author : Dan-Oscar Antson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Padlock probe; enzymatic synthesis; PCR; in situ hybridization; RNA-templated DNA ligation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Novel techniques are needed to investigate the genetic variation revealed in the first draft of the human genome sequence. Padlock probes are recently developed reagents, suitable for detecting single-nucleotide variations of DNA and RNA in situ or in solution. READ MORE

  4. 9. First As Probe, Then As Function - Fluorescence in Bio-inspired Nanotechnology

    Author : Jonas Hannestad; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-assembly; lipid membrane; bio-inspired; FRET; light-harvesting; spectroscopy.; fluorescence; nanotechnology; single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy; DNA;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I demonstrate how fluorescence can be used in the context of bio-inspired nanotechnology, both as an indirect probe and as a function in itself. By combining principles and molecules from three different bio-molecular systems, DNA, bacterial light-harvesting complexes and cell membranes, I have constructed nano- and microscale systems for long-range excitation energy transfer, light-harvesting and reaction control.
