  1. 1. Radiation response in human cells DNA damage formation, repair and signaling

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ann-Sofie Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA damage; DNA repair; DSB; NHEJ; DNA-PK; ionizing radiation; heat-labile sites; Biomedical Radiation Science; Biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Ionizing radiation induces a range of different DNA lesions. In terms of mutation frequency and mammalian cell survival, the most critical of these lesions is the DNA double-strand break (DSB). DSB left unrepaired or mis-repaired may result in chromosomal aberrations that can lead to permanent genetic changes or cell death. READ MORE

  2. 2. Induction and repair of clustered DNA damage sites after exposure to ionizing radiation

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Andris Abramenkovs; Uppsala universitet.; [2019]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NHEJ; DSB repair; clustered DNA damage; DNA repair; DNA-PKcs; HSCS; Ra-223; ionizing radiation; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : The mechanisms that maintain genomic stability safeguard cells from constant DNA damage produced by endogenous and external stressors. Therefore, this thesis aimed to specifically address questions regarding the requirement and involvement of DNA repair proteins in the repair of various types of radiation-induced DNA damage. 3. 3. AtZDP, a Plant 3' DNA Phosphatase, Involved in DNA Repair

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Isabel Valsecchi; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : Molecular biology; AtZDP; plant long patch Base Excision Repair; DNA 3 phosphate blocking lesions; DNA repair; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : DNA bases can be modified by endogenous agents (e.g. oxidized by products of respiration and photosynthesis or methylated by gene silencing processes) as well as by environmental agents (e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Role of Non-Homologous End-Joining in Repair of Radiation-Induced DNA Double-Strand Breaks

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Karin Karlsson; Uppsala universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : Molecular biology; DNA damage; DNA repair; DSB; NHEJ; DNA-PK; ionising radiation; high-LET; heat-labile sites; PFGE; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Efficient and correct repair of DNA damage, especially DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), is vital for the survival of individual cells and organisms. Defects in the DNA repair may lead to cell death or genomic instability and development of cancer. READ MORE

  5. 5. Oxidative damage and the DNA glycosylase MutYH

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Kristina Jansson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2010]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxidative damage; 8-oxo-7; 8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine; Base excision repair; DNA glycosylase; Mismatch repair; DNA damage checkpoint; 9-1-1 complex; Glutathione-S-transferases; Colon cancer.;

    Abstract : The DNA glycosylase MutYH is highly conserved throughout evolution, and homologs are found in most eukaryotes and prokaryotes examined. MutYH functions as a base excision repair DNA glycosylase that excises adenines misincorporated opposite 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG), one of the most stable products of oxidative DNA damage.
