    Abstract : This thesis examines the extension of capitalism in a village in Kigoma Region, Northwest Tanzania, from the point of view of how people experience it. Relying on ten months of field work, interviews, and archival material from the British colonial period, it shows how local conditions of production, and the experiences thereof, are influenced by wider processes of change on a regional, national, and global level.     Abstract : I investigated the bacterial utilization of terrestrially derived dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) in aquatic ecosystems, and assessed the potential role of river-born DON in marine eutrophication.     Abstract : Glutamine is essential for cell growth. 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine (DON) is a rather old anti-tumour drug developed as a glutamine antagonist. Previous clinical trials with DON, not including carcinoid tumours, did not prove convincing. Hence the drug was not further used. READ MORE
