  1. 1. Gene expression in the dorsal root ganglion and the role of PAI-1 and amphiregulin during regeneration

    University dissertation from Anna Nilsson, Helgonav. 3B, SE-226 32 LUND

    Author : Anna Nilsson; [2004]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Djurfysiologi; Animal physiology; DRG; micro-array; peripheral nerve regeneration; mouse;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with two aspects of peripheral nerve injury. First the early changes in the gene expression of the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) in response to sciatic nerve injury as revealed by micro-array analysis. Second an examination of the effect of PAI-1 and amphiregulin on survival and axonal outgrowth from DRG. READ MORE

  2. 2. Regeneration of Peripheral Nerves. The role of protein kinases, with emphasis on neurotrophic factor stimulation

    University dissertation from Peter Wiklund, Zenithgatan 3 SE-212 14 Malmö, Sweden

    Author : Peter Wiklund; [1999]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NT-4; NT-3; NGF; MAPK; PKG; PKA; PKC; nodose ganglion; DRG; conditioning effect; neurotrophic factors; protein kinases; peripheral; nerve regeneration; BDNF; GDNF; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of protein kinases in peripheral nerve regeneration, with the use of dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and nodose ganglia explants from adult mice. The effects of neurotrophic factor stimulation and protein kinase inhibition were studied for long (days) and short term (minutes) effects. READ MORE

  3. 3. PACAP in adult sensory neurons - implications in injury and pain

    University dissertation from Helen Jongsma Wallin, Physiological Sciences, BMC F10, 221 84 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Helen Jongsma Wallin; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; peripheral nerve injury; PAC1; PACAP; neurotrophin; neuropeptide; inflammatory pain; inflammation; gracile nuclei; DRG; formalin test; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; trk;

    Abstract : The data presented in this thesis deal with the neuropeptide pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) in adult sensory neurons. We have used different injury and pain models to determine the involvement of PACAP during such conditions. The role of neurotrophins for PACAP expression was also investigated. READ MORE

  4. 4. PACAP and orphanin FQ/nociceptin -Distribution, importance and regulation in sensory neurons and spinal cord

    University dissertation from Lina Pettersson, Physiological Sciences, Neuroendocrine Cell Biology, BMC F10, 221 84 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Lina Pettersson; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; trk; spinal cord; sensory neuron; rat; PAC1; PACAP; ORL1; OFQ N; neurotrophin; neuropeptide; nerve transection; nerve compression; inflammatory pain; BDNF; DRG;

    Abstract : Neuropeptide expression in the nervous system is abundant and plastic, and an altered expression after injury is an example of a functional response, helping the neuron to cope with adverse changes, and involves effects on differentiation, synthesis, repair/regeneration, survival, and modulation of signal transmission. I have investigated the distribution/expression of the neuropeptides, orphanin FQ/nociceptin (OFQ/N) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP), under normal conditions, in response to nerve injuries, and also studied sensory responses in mice deficient for the PAC1 receptor (PAC1-/-). 5. 5. Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

    University dissertation from Department of Animal Physiology, Lund University

    Author : Mariann Sondell; [2000]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Schwann cell; SCG; rat; peripheral nerve regeneration; neuropilin-1; nerve repair; mouse; growth factor; flk-1; axonal outgrowth; DRG; VEGF; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its possible role as a neurotrophic factor. I have investigated the effect of VEGF on neurons in culture but also in vivo, following a crush lesion of the sciatic nerve, and following nerve repair. READ MORE
