1. Precision measurements on negative ions
Abstract : In this thesis, experiments with negative ions performed at the DESIREE facility are presented. DESIREE consists of two electrostatic storage rings operated at 13 K. The low temperature in combination with a low pressure allows for storage times of the negative ion beams to be up to several hours. READ MORE

2. Optimisation of Local and National Energy Systems : Development and Use of the MODEST Model
Abstract : Energy may be supplied by a multitude of components. Computer simulation helps in finding a beneficial system design. The energy-system optimisation model MODEST has been developed, and it has been applied to municipal, regional, and national energy systems. READ MORE

3. Efficient heat supply and use from an energy-system and climate perspective
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to illustrate whether the heat demand in district heating systems can be seen as a resource that enables efficient energy utilization, how this can be achieved and to discuss consequences of this assumption. Based on the answers to posed research questions and on the studies included in this thesis, it is concluded that the hypothesis “A common system approach for energy supply and heat demand will show climate and economic efficient solutions” is true. 4. District Heating in a Liberalized Energy Market: A New Order? : Planning and Development in the Stockholm Region, 1978-2012
Abstract : This dissertation analyses how district heating systems in the Stockholm region have evolved and developed during the period 1978-2012. The thesis comprises four papers analyzing how district heating has been handled in municipal and regional planning. READ MORE

5. District Heating Sensitivity to Heat Demand Reductions and Electricity Market Dynamics
Abstract : Sweden and the rest of the EU member states have to reduce primary energy use andemissions of CO2, and increase the use of renewable energy sources according to the EUclimate change package “20-20-20”. To do this, the energy systems need to use less fossilfuel and to utilise energy resources more efficiently. READ MORE
