  1. 11. The cholecystokinin receptor family : molecular cloning and pharmacological characterization

    Author : Isabelle Nilsson; Dan Larhammar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Cholecystokinin (CCK) and gastrin are hormones/neurotransmittors of the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system. The receptors for gastrin and CCK are members of the G protein-coupled receptor family. The aim of this study was to clone and pharmacologically characterize vertebrate and invertebrate CCK receptors and splice variants. READ MORE

  2. 12. Evolution of Vertebrate Endocrine and Neuronal Gene Families : Focus on Pituitary and Retina

    Author : Daniel Ocampo Daza; Dan Larhammar; Marc Robinson-Rechavi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : phylogenetics; evolution; molecular evolution; gene family evolution; genome duplication; gene duplication; oxytocin receptor; vasopressin receptor; visual opsin; transducin; growth hormone; prolactin; somatolactin; growth hormone receptor; prolactin receptor; somatostatin receptor; SSTR; IGFBP; evolution; molekylär evolution; fylogeni;

    Abstract : The duplication of genes followed by selection is perhaps the most prominent way in which molecular biological systems gain multiplicity, diversity and functional complexity in evolution. Whole genome duplications (WGDs) therefore have the potential of generating an extraordinary amount of evolutionary innovation. READ MORE

  3. 13. Evolution of acetylcholine receptors and study of the anatomy of the mouse brain reward system

    Author : Julia Pedersen; Dan Larhammar; Arnaud Chatonnet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ventral Tegmental Area; Mesocorticolimbic system; Glutamate; Optogenetics; Histology; Acetylcholine; Receptor; Muscarininc; Nicotinic; G protein-coupled receptor; Gene duplication; Tetraploidization; Synteny; Paralogon; Ohnolog; Zebrafish; Spotted gar; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis work is divided in two parts. In the first part, I make use of the transgenic TRPV1-Cre mouse line as a tool to investigate the midbrain ventral tegmental area (VTA). READ MORE

  4. 14. Cloning, Expression, Pharmacological Characterization and Anatomical Distribution of Melanocortin Receptors in an Evolutionary Perspective

    Author : Aneta I. Ringholm; Helgi B. Schiöth; Dan Larhammar; Björn Olde; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; evolution; melanocortin; MSH; pharmacology; genome duplication; tetraploidization; zebrafish; spiny dogfish; chicken; GPCR; polymorphism; pigmentation; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Abstract : The melanocortin (MC) receptors are G-protein coupled receptors thatparticipate in several important physiological functions such as the regulation of the energy balance. This thesis focuses on the evolutionary aspect of the MC receptors and their pharmacology.One MC4 receptor and two MC5 receptor subtypes were found in a teleost fish, zebrafish. READ MORE

  5. 15. The human pancreatic polypeptide receptor Y4 : Genetic and functional variation

    Author : Kateryna Shebanits; Dan Larhammar; Sadaf Farooqi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NPY4R; Y4; obesity; CNV; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Humans are evolutionarily adapted to an environment where food is scarce, but today many live in a world of food abundance. Paired with low physical activity, this may lead to weight gain and obesity. Efficient anti-obesity treatments require understanding of the mechanisms that control hunger, satiety, energy metabolism and body weight. READ MORE
