  1. 1. Unraveling the role of NOTCH3 dysfunction in disease and for therapy development : a focus on CADASIL

    Author : Daniel V Oliveira; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The Notch signaling pathway, including the Notch3 receptor, is involved in many pivotal contexts of cell signaling and cell fate determination processes during development and in adulthood. Different mutations in the NOTCH3 receptor, which is highly expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC), are associated with various diseases, including developmental disorders, several forms of cancer, and vascular dementia. 2. 2. The rough journey to access health care : the case of leishmaniasis in the Bolivian rainforest

    Author : Daniel V. Eid Rodríguez; Miguel San Sebastián; Isabel Goicolea; Anna-Karin Hurtig; John Porter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cutaneous leishmaniasis; Health-care access; risk factors; population surveillance; capture-recapture; health care seeking behavior; intralesional pentavalent antimonials; economic analysis; cost analysis; budget impact analysis; Bolivia; rainforest; Public health; folkhälsa;

    Abstract : Background: Leishmaniasis is a parasitic infectious disease transmitted by vectors that cause three main clinical syndromes: cutaneous (CL), mucosal (ML), and visceral (VL). Since VL is not relevant to this thesis, only CL and ML will be further discussed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Experimental and numerical investigations of hydrodynamic focusing of colloidal dispersions

    Author : V. Krishne Gowda; Fredrik Lundell; Daniel Söderberg; Lynn Walker; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfluidics; flow focusing; colloidal fiber dispersion; effective interfacial tension; microflow morphology; nanoparticle orientation; Mikrofluidik; flödesfokusering; kolloidala dispersioner; effektiv ytspänning; mikroflödesmorfologi; orientering av nanopartiklar; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Dispersed non-spherical particles are the fundamental constituent of many complex fluids. Such fluids are studied both for their industrial and scientific importance, and for their peculiar functional properties (mechanical, optical, thermal, fluidic). READ MORE

  4. 4. A study of turbulence and scalar mixing in a wall-jet using direct numerical simulation

    Author : Daniel Ahlman; Arne V. Johansson; Lars-Erik Eriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningmekanik; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Direct numerical simulation is used to study the dynamics and mixing in a turbulent plane wall-jet. The investigation is undertaken in order to extend the knowledge base of the influence of the wall on turbulent dynamics and mixing. The mixing statistics produced can also be used to evaluate and develop models for mixing and combustion. READ MORE

  5. 5. Energy Conversion and Particle Acceleration at Turbulent Plasma Jet Fronts

    Author : Louis Richard; Yuri V. Khotyaintsev; Daniel B. Graham; Andris Vaivads; Emiliya Yordanova; Vassilis Angelopoulos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma jets; Magnetic reconnection; Particle acceleration; Magnetosphere; Magnetospheric Multiscale; Fysik med inriktning mot rymd- och plasmafysik; Physics with specialization in Space and Plasma Physics;

    Abstract : High-speed plasma flows (jets) are ubiquitous phenomena in the visible Universe. When the fast plasma flow encounters the ambient plasma at rest, it forms a front where its kinetic energy is dissipated. At the jet front, charged particles gain energy from the electromagnetic fields through heating and acceleration. READ MORE
