    Abstract : This thesis explores the history of botany as a global collection-based science by tracing parallels between utopian traditions and botanical collecting, from their sixteenth-century beginnings to the present. A range of botanical collections, such as gardens, herbaria and classification systems, have played a central role in the struggle to discover a global or universal scientific order for the chaotic, diverse and locally shaped kingdom of plants. 2. 2. Gated Bayesian Networks

    Author : Marcus Bendtsen; Jose M. Peña; Nahid Shahmehri; Helge Langseth; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Bayesian networks have grown to become a dominant type of model within the domain of probabilistic graphical models. Not only do they empower users with a graphical means for describing the relationships among random variables, but they also allow for (potentially) fewer parameters to estimate, and enable more efficient inference. 3. 3. Improving Software Security by Preventing Known Vulnerabilities

    Author : David Byers; Nahid Shahmehri; David Basin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Software security; software process improvement;

    Abstract : From originally being of little concern, security has become a crucial quality factor in modern software. The risk associated with software insecurity has increased dramatically with increased reliance on software and a growing number of threat agents. Nevertheless, developers still struggle with security. READ MORE

  4. 4. Query Processing over Heterogeneous Federations of Graph Data

    Author : Sijin Cheng; Olaf Hartig; Patrick Lambrix; Andreas Harth; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Graph data offers a natural and intuitive way to represent complex relationships in various real-world phenomena, such as social networks, e-commerce platforms, and biological networks. The way we interact with information, technology and even society has been changed by graph data, especially after Google started in 2012 to develop the so-called Knowledge Graph. READ MORE

  5. 5. Completing the Is-a Structure in Description Logics Ontologies

    Author : Zlatan Dragisic; Patrick Lambrix; Fang Wei-Kleiner; Guilin Qi; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Knowledge representation; ontology; ontology engineering; ontology debugging; description logics;

    Abstract : The World Wide Web contains large amounts of data and in most cases this data is without any explicit structure. The lack of structure makes it difficult for automated agents to understand and use such data. READ MORE
