  1. 1. The last policeman : On the globalisation of local policing

    Author : David Sausdal; Magnus Hörnqvist; Henrik Vigh; Ian Loader; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Policing; globalisation; cross-border crime; concern; nostalgia; everyday life; ethnography; kriminologi; Criminology;

    Abstract : Global threats, such as cross-border crime and terrorism are on the rise! At least, this is a popular notion amongst politicians, policy makers and the police, who are therefore advocating a need for policing to become as peripatetic and pervasive as these criminal developments. This has led to a rise in transnational or international police collaborations, notably through institutions such as Interpol, Europol, Frontex, UNPOL and many bilateral partnerships. READ MORE

  2. 2. Understanding Multicore Performance : Efficient Memory System Modeling and Simulation

    Author : Andreas Sandberg; Erik Hagersten; David Black-Schaffer; David A. Wood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer Architecture; Simulation; Modeling; Sampling; Caches; Memory Systems; gem5; Parallel Simulation; Virtualization; Sampling; Multicore; Datavetenskap; Computer Science;

    Abstract : To increase performance, modern processors employ complex techniques such as out-of-order pipelines and deep cache hierarchies. While the increasing complexity has paid off in performance, it has become harder to accurately predict the effects of hardware/software optimizations in such systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Systematics, phylogeography and polyploid evolution in the Dactylorhiza maculata complex (Orchidaceae)

    Author : David Ståhlberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ITS; morphometry; taxonomy; Systematic botany; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; vegetation analysis; recombination; polyploidy; plastid DNA; niche differentiation; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; morphology; phytogeography; hybrid zone; glacial refugia; Dactylorhiza; flow cytometry; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate and describe different aspects of variation in the Dactylorhiza maculata complex and to relate the variation patterns to underlying biological processes such as Quaternary migration history, hybridization and polyploid evolution. The variation patterns were analysed at various geographic levels using molecular markers (plastid DNA and ITS of nrDNA), cytological data, morphometry and ecological data. READ MORE

  4. 4. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? : Four papers on the prediction of contentious politics

    Author : David Randahl; Håvard Hegre; Espen Geelmuyden Rød; Måns Thulin; Bear Braumoeller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Peace and Conflict Research; Freds- och konfliktforskning;

    Abstract : In the last decade advances in statistics, computing power, and data collection has led to an increased interest in forecasting within the field of peace and conflict research and to the adoption of a wide range of methodological approaches for making such forecasts. By making use of these more powerful forecasting methods researchers have been able to produce accurate predictions, as well as better inferences, of many different types of contentious politics events and to create operational early warning systems for such events. 5. 5. Nanoparticles in capillary electrophoresis : what are the benefits?

    Author : David Malmström; Jonas Bergquist; Charlotta Turner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Capillary electrophoresis is a technique that separate compounds based on charge and size. During the last two decades capillary electrophoresis (CE) and mass spectrometry (MS) has gained in interest, become more robust to use and able to separate neutral analytes. READ MORE
