  1. 1. Robust design : Accounting for uncertainties in engineering

    Author : David Lönn; Larsgunnar Nilsson; Niclas Strömberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Robust optimisation; robust design; robustness; meta model; sensitivity analysis; Solid mechanics; Fastkroppsmekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns optimization of structures considering various uncertainties. The overall objective is to find methods to create solutions that are optimal both in the sense of handling the typical load case and minimising the variability of the response, i.e. robust optimal designs. 2. 2. Computational Aspects of Maass Waveforms

    Author : Fredrik Strömberg; Dennis A. Hejhal; Andreas Strömbergsson; David Farmer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical analysis; Maass waveform; Congruence subgroup; Noncongruence subgroup; Multiplier system; Theta multiplier system; Eta multiplier system; real weight; Hecke operator; Involution; Dirichlet character; Spectral Theory; Computation; Matematisk analys; Mathematical analysis; Analys; matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is computation of Mass waveforms, and we consider a number of different cases: Congruence subgroups of the modular group and Dirichlet characters (chapter 1); congruence subgroups and general multiplier systems and real weight (chapter 2); and noncongruence subgroups (chapter 3). In each case we first discuss the necessary theoretical background. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sex and stress steroid modulation of GABA mediated chloride ion flux in rat CNS

    Author : Jessica Strömberg; Per Lundgren; Torbjörn Bäckström; David Haage; Esa Korpi; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; allopregnanolone; chloride ion uptake; patch-clamp; 3beta-steroids; kinetic parameters; rat brain; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Abstract : Background: Sex and stress steroids are metabolized to 3a-hydroxy-pregnane-steroid metabolites such as allopregnanolone (Allo) and tetrahydrodeoxycorticosterone (THDOC). Allo and THDOC are neuroactive steroids that are metabolized in the brain and act in brain as potent positive GABAA receptor function modulators. READ MORE

  4. 4. Political Economics of Special Interests and Gender

    Author : Audinga Baltrunaite; David Strömberg; Torsten Persson; Jordi Blanes i Vidal; Stockholms universitet; []

    Abstract : Political Finance Reform and Public Procurement:  Evidence from Lithuania. Can political donations buy influence? This paper studies whether firms trade political contributions for public procurement contracts. To answer this question, I focus on the Lithuanian political economy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Media Influence on Pollution, and Gender Equality

    Author : Pamela Campa; David Strömberg; Tommaso Nannicini; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Newspapers; Toxic Emissions; Gender Quotas; Female Politicians; Sex-Role Attitudes; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three essays.The first essay, "Press and Leaks: Do Newspapers Reduce Toxic Emissions?", uses data on plant-level emissions in 2001-2009 from the Toxic Release Inventory of the US Environmental Protection Agency, coupled with data on location and content of newspapers, to investigate whether media coverage induces firms to reduce toxic emissions.
