  1. 1. Gaussian process models of social change

    Author : Björn Rune Helmer Blomqvist; David J. T. Sumpter; Ranjula Bali Swain; Ian Vernon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gaussian processes; Bayesian statistics; Dynamical systems; Social sciences; Tillämpad matematik och statistik; Applied Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : Social systems produce complex and nonlinear relationships in the indicator variables that describe them. Traditional statistical regression techniques are commonly used in the social sciences to study such systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Robot Learning and Reproduction of High-Level Behaviors

    Author : Benjamin Fonooni; Thomas Hellström; David Vernon; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Learning techniques are drawing extensive attention in the robotics community. Some reasons behind moving from traditional preprogrammed robots to more advanced human fashioned techniques are to save time and energy, and allow non-technical users to easily work with robots. 3. 3. Functional understanding of space : Representing spatial knowledge using concepts grounded in an agent's purpose

    Author : Kristoffer Sjöö; Patric Jensfelt; David Vernon; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spatial representation; autonomous robots; spatial understanding; semantic mapping; spatial relations; visual search; robot search;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the role of function in representations of space by robots - that is, dealing directly and explicitly with those aspects of space and objects in space that serve some purpose for the robot. It is suggested that taking function into account helps increase the generality and robustness of solutions in an unpredictable and complex world, and the suggestion is affirmed by several instantiations of functionally conceived spatial models.
