  1. 1. Colloidal interactions obtained from total internal reflection microscopy measurements and scattering data

    Author : Moheb Nayeri; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; total internal reflection microscopy; colloidal stability; van der Waals interaction; Debye length; surfactants; depletion; scattering; colloidal stability;

    Abstract : The scattering of radiation can be used to extract information about the interactions between colloidal (10^{-7}-10^{-3} cm radius) particles suspended in liquids. As colloidal interactions incorporate entropic effects they are weak and while system specific they are governed by a number of general mechanisms. READ MORE

  2. 2. Thermodynamic Studies of Macromolecular Models

    Author : Ola Sommelius; Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; classical mechanics; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; termodynamik; klassisk mekanik; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; statistisk fysik; gravitation; kvantmekanik; relativitet; quantum mechanics; relativity; statistical physics; thermodynamics; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Sommelius;

    Abstract : The thermodynamic properties of single chain polyelectrolyte and protein models are studied using Monte Carlo simulations and (for the polyelectrolyte models) variational calculations and high- and low-temperature expansions. A variational method is used for minimizing Lennard-Jones energies and for estimating end-to-end distances for a rigid Coulomb chain at finite temperatures. READ MORE

  3. 3. Appropriate conditions for polyelectrolyte titration to determine the charge of cellulosic fibers

    Author : Elisabet Horvath; KTH; []
    Keywords : adsorption; electrolyte; polyelectrolyte; ;

    Abstract : The polyelectrolyte titration method has been developed overthe years in order to determine the surface charge ofcellulosic fibers. The conditions have been varied depending onthe author. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cluster Observations and Theoretical Explanations of Broadband Waves in the Auroral Region

    Author : Marie Backrud; Jan-Erik Wahlund; Mats André; David Knudsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space and plasma physics; ion acoustic waves; auroral region; anomalous resistivity; Cluster; Rymd- och plasmafysik; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Abstract : Broadband extremely low-frequency wave emissions below the ion plasma frequency have been observed by a number of spacecraft and rockets on auroral field lines. The importance of these broadband emissions for transverse ion heating and electron acceleration in the auroral regions is now reasonably well established. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modelling and Simulation of Thermal Radiation in Biomass Combustion

    Author : Thomas Nilsson; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; heat load; gas turbine; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; porous media; fixed bed; biomass; wood; FG-DVC; combustion; DOM; P1-approximation; Mie theory; RDG-PFA; EWBM; thermal radiation; soot;

    Abstract : This thesis presents numerical investigations and simulations of fixed bed combustion of wood, models for predicting thermal radiative properties of particles and gases related to the combustion of wood, and a review of heat load calculations in gas turbines. All subjects have a common factor in thermal radiation. READ MORE
