  1. 1. Subjective Cognitive Complaints in the Working Population : The Influence of Objective Cognitive Functioning and Working Conditions

    Author : Cecilia U. D. Stenfors; Lars-Göran Nilsson; Töres Theorell; Linda L. Magnusson Hanson; Gabriel Oxenstierna; Nancy Pedersen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Subjective cognitive complaints; cognitive functioning; declarative memory; episodic memory; semantic memory; working memory; executive cognitive functioning; psychosocial working conditions; demand-control-support model; population-based; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Cognitive functioning is important for managing work and life in general. However, subjective cognitive complaints (SCC), involving self-perceived difficulties with concentration, memory, decision making, and clear thinking are common in the general and in the working population and can be coupled with both lowered well-being and work ability. 2. 2. Aspects of Declarative Memory Functioning in Adulthood : Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Studies

    Author : Michael Rönnlund; Elizabeth Maylor; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; aging; episodic memory; sematic memory; encoding support; crosssectional; longitudinal; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : The general objective of the thesis was to examine aspects of declarative memory functioning across the adult life span. The four papers were based on data collected as part of the Betula Prospective Cohort Study (Nilsson et al., 1997) and included largescale population-based samples of participants in the age range 35 to 90. 3. 3. Procedural and Declarative Memory in Children with Developmental Disorders of Language and Literacy

    Author : Martina Hedenius; Margareta Jennische; Jonas Persson; Michael T Ullman; Elena Plante; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Specific Language Impairment; Developmental Dyslexia; Procedural memory; Declarative memory; Implicit sequence learning;

    Abstract : The procedural deficit hypothesis (PDH) posits that a range of language, cognitive and motor impairments associated with specific language impairment (SLI) and developmental dyslexia (DD) may be explained by an underlying domain-general dysfunction of the procedural memory system. In contrast, declarative memory is hypothesized to remain intact and to play a compensatory role in the two disorders. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cross-functional brain imaging of attention, memory, and executive functions : Unity and diversity of neurocognitive component processes

    Author : Petter Marklund; Lars Nyberg; Akira Miyake; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Human memory; executive functions; prefrontal cortex; sustained and transient neural activity; declarative long-term memory; attention; working memory; functional neuroimaging; cognitive control.; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : The central theme of the present thesis revolves around the exploration of similarities and differences in brain activity patterns invoked by the component processes underlying mnemonic, executive and attentional functions. The primary aim was to identify and functionally characterize commonly recruited brain regions in terms of shared component processes, which has been a largely neglected area of research in cognitive neuroscience. 5. 5. The power of action and knowledge in episodic memory for school-aged children

    Author : Farzaneh Badinlou; Reza Kormi-Nouri; Monika Knopf; Agneta Herlitz; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Episodic memory; action memory; enactment effect; subject-performed tasks; experimenter-performed tasks; verbal tasks; school-aged children; memory strategies; information processing;

    Abstract : Developmental and cognitive research suggests that there are age-related differ-ences in children’s episodic memory across school ages due to the development of knowledge, which in turn affects memory strategy use and information pro-cessing over time. However, there are controversial findings related to devel-opmental patterns and factors involved in children’s episodic memory function. READ MORE
