  1. 21. Sex and gender differences in patients undergoing ablation of atrial arrhythmias

    Author : Carina Carnlöf; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Women and men differ in the prevalence of arrhythmias. Furthermore, there are sex and gender differences in referral for ablation, symptom severity, health-related quality of life (HRQOL), functional impairment and response to treatment, risk factors, and outcomes. 2. 22. Placement of automated external defibrillators and logistics to facilitate early defibrillation in sudden cardiac arrest

    Author : David Fredman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background and aim: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a leading cause of death in many western countries. Much effort is put in to measures to improve survival. Early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) significantly increase the chance of survival. READ MORE

  3. 23. Assessment of myocardial viability using magnetic resonance imaging

    Author : Robert Jablonowski; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Magnetic resonance imaging; myocardial infarction; hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; fibrosis; viability;

    Abstract : Myocardial infarction (MI) following an acute coronary occlusion is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. During revascularization, microemboli may complicate treatment and affect cardiac function. The long-term effects of microembolization are not fully elucidated. READ MORE

  4. 24. Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy : Genetic and Electrocardiographic Aspects on Risk of Ventricular Arrhythmia and Diagnosis

    Author : Anneli Svensson; Cecilia Gunnarsson; Pyotr Platonov; Lars O. Karlsson; Perry M. Elliott; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Introduction: ARVC (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy) is a heritable rare disease of the heart muscle, primarily affecting the right ventricle, that may cause arrhythmias and heart failure.Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to study various aspects of genetic information and electrocardiography (ECG), for their use in diagnosis and risk evaluation in ARVC. 5. 25. Bystander CPR : New aspects of CPR training among students and the importance of bystander education level on survival

    Abstract : Background: It has been proved that bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) saves lives; however, which training method in CPR is most instructive and whether survival is affected by the training level of the bystander have not yet been fully described. Aim: To identify the factors that may affect 7th grade students’ acquisition of CPR skills during CPR training and their willingness to act, and to describe 30-day survival from outof- hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) after bystander CPR and the actions performed by laymen versus off-duty medically educated personnel.
