  1. 6. Shear Fracture and Delamination in Packaging Materials : A study of Experimental Methods and Simulation Techniques

    Author : Md. Shafiqul Islam; Sharon Kao-Walter; Christian Johansson; Johan Tryding; Blekinge Institute of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Package opening; Shear test specimen; Stress intensity factor; Finite Element simulation; Scanning electron microscopy; Polymers; Interlaminar shear delamination;

    Abstract : Packages are the means of preservation, distribution and convenience of use for food, medicine and other consumer products. Package opening is becoming complicated in many cases because of cutting cost in design and production of opening techniques. READ MORE

  2. 7. Experimental methods to determine model parameters for failure modes of CFRP

    Author : Daniel Svensson; Ulf Stigh; Svante Alfredsson; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; composite; delamination; compressive failure; energy release rate; cohesive modelling; Teknik; Technology;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is to develop methods to predict the damage response of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymers (CFRP). In the pursuit of reducing the manufacturing cost and weight of CFRP components, it is crucial to enable modelling of the non-linear response associated with various failure modes. READ MORE

  3. 8. Robust analysis of delaminating composites using adaptive isogeometric shell elements

    Author : Elias Börjesson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; path-following solver; delamination; adaptive; Isogeometric analysis;

    Abstract : Fibre reinforced composites are considered to be one of the material categories that offer the best possibilities to create efficient lightweight designs. Many companies in the transport sector therefore work towards increasing the amount of fibre composites in their products, in an attempt to lower the fuel consumption of their vehicles. READ MORE

  4. 9. Influence of inhomogeneities on the tensile and compressive mechanical properties of paperboard

    Author : Anton Hagman; Mikael Nygårds; Sören Östlund; Nils Hallbäck; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Paperboard; Inhomogeneities; In-plane properties; Tension; Compression; Shear properties; Delamination; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : The in-plane properties of paperboard have always been of interest to paper scientists. Tensile properties are crucial when the board is fed through converting machines at high speeds. Compressive properties are essential in the later use. Inhomogeneities affect both the compressive and tensile properties. READ MORE

  5. 10. The fracture mechanisms in duplex stainless steels at sub-zero temperatures

    Author : Johan Pilhagen; Pavel Korzhavy; Rolf Sandström; Kim Wallin; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Duplex stainless steel; Weldments; Delamination; Fracture toughness; Impact toughness; Cleavage fracture; Nickel;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to study the susceptibility for brittle failures and the fracture process of duplex stainless steels at sub-zero temperatures (°C). In the first part of the thesis plates of hot-rolled duplex stainless steel with various thicknesses were used to study the influence of delamination (also known as splits) on the fracture toughness.
