  2. 2. Study of solidification and volume change in lamellar cast iron with respect to defect formation mechanisms

    Author : Péter Svidró; Pär Jönsson; Pål Schmidt; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lamellar cast iron; shrinkage porosity; solidification; volumetric change; dendrite coherency; inter-dendritic space;

    Abstract : Lamellar cast iron is a very important technical alloy and the most used material in the casting production, and especially in the automotive industry which is the major consumer. Beside the many great properties, it is inclined to form casting defects of which some can be prevented, and some may be repaired subsequently. READ MORE

  3. 3. Dendritic morphology and ultimate tensile strength of pearlitic lamellar graphite iron

    Author : Vasilios Fourlakidis; Attila Diószegi; Carlos A. Silva Ribeiro; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lamellar graphite iron; Primary austenite dendrite; Ultimate tensile strength; Microstructure model;

    Abstract : The continued development, of cylinder blocks and cylinder heads for heavy truck engines that are made of lamellar graphite iron (LGI) is focused on achieving high ultimate tensile strength (UTS) whilst conforming to environmental regulations. The purpose of this work is to further improve the tensile strength as well as the predictive engineering tools for optimization of LGI aimed to enhance the efforts for producing lighter and sustainable components without sacrificing performance. 4. 4. On the solidification of Al alloys during microgravity

    Author : Johan Dahlström; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Thermal analyses have been performed on Al, Al-Cu alloys,Al-Sn alloys, Pb, Sn, Pb-Sn alloys and Al-based amorphousalloys were also investigated. The cooling rates varied fromless than a Kelvin per minute to more than 10,000 Kelvin persecond. Solidification was made under normal gravity and undermicrogravity conditions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Study of microstructure development in hypoeutectic grey cast iron

    Author : Ruben Lora; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The avoidance of shrinkage porosity and metal expansion penetration defects as well as the control of the size and number of eutectic colonies and the tensile properties of the casting are issues of major importance in the production of lamellar cast iron. These defects, characteristics and properties are related to the microstructure that develops during solidification. READ MORE
