  1. 1. Plasticity Driven Damage and Void Growth

    University dissertation from Solid Mechanics, Lund University, P O Box 118, SE-221 00 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Mattias Olsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; vibration and acoustic engineering; vacuum technology; hydraulics; void growth; Mechanical engineering; damage evolution; elasto-plasticity; thermodynamics;

    Abstract : Plasticity induced damage evolution is considered using a thermodynamical approach. Different postulates on how to include the effects of damage in the constitutive equations have been studied. The results reveal that a mapping, similar to that of the stress, of both the kinematic and isotropic hardening variables is to be preferred. READ MORE

  2. 2. Weld Pool Simulations

    University dissertation from Göteborg : Department of Mathematical Sciences

    Author : Marcus Edstorp; Högskolan Väst.; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MATHEMATICS Applied mathematics; MATEMATIK Tillämpad matematik; TECHNOLOGY Industrial engineering and economy Manufacturing engineering and work sciences Manufacturing engineering; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Industriell teknik och ekonomi Produktion och arbetsvetenskap Produktionsteknik; Manufacturing and materials engineering; Produktions- och materialteknik; Arc Welding; Weld Pool; Multiphysics Simulations; Moving Boundaries; Free Surfaces; Mesh Motion; Two-Phase Flow; Incompressible Flow; Electromagnetics; Finite Element Methods;

    Abstract : This investigation is devoted to the study of welding and its effect on the workpiece, focusing on the thermo and fluid dynamical phenomena occuring during a autogenous or nonautogenous arc fusion welding process. Its aim is to simulate the behaviour of the weld pool and analyze the consequence of the solid-liquid phase change, thus obtaining a methodology for predicting the appearance of weld defects related to solidification and cooling. Author : Azra Selimovic; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2002]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; statistical physics; plasma; plasmas; Gaser; fluiddynamik; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; Gases; fluid dynamics; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; Hybrid Cycles; Gas Turbines; Mathematical Modelling; Electrochemistry; Fuel Cells; Solid Oxide Fuel Cells; thermodynamics; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; klassisk mekanik; kvantmekanik; relativitet; gravitation; statistisk fysik; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; classical mechanics; quantum mechanics; relativity;

    Abstract : Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), working at high temperatures with an incomplete fuel oxidation process, have become an interesting candidate for combination with conventional power generation technology, such as gas turbines, in order to develop power plants that are both functional and efficient. An absolute condition for successful analysis and optimisation of such plants is the existence of reliable simulation tools. READ MORE

  4. 4. Plasma arc welding simulation with OpenFOAM

    University dissertation from Göteborg, Sweden : Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Margarita Sass-Tisovskaya; Högskolan Väst.; [2009]

    Abstract : A simulation tool that is valid within the field of tandem arc welding(unsteady, three dimensional thermal plasma flow) has been developed,based on the open source CFD package OpenFOAM. The validation of the electromagnetic part of the solver has been done separately using a problem with a known solution. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of a Multidimensional Residual Distribution Solver for Large Eddy Simulation of Industrial Turbulent Flows

    University dissertation from Ole Romers Vag 1, Box 118, SE 22100, Lund Sweden

    Author : Doru Caraeni; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermal engineering; High-Order Compact Schemes.; Compressible Flows; Parallel Computations; Multidimensional Residual Distribution Schemes; Large Eddy Simulation; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the results of the author's research activity to develop a time-space accurate flow-solver for Large Eddy Simulations (LES), based on the Multidimensional Residual Distribution approach. The aim of this work is the attempt to develop a compact high-order algorithm which includes multidimensional flow physics, in hope of creating a better algorithm for LES of turbulent compressible flows.
