  1. 6. Staging urban emergence through collective creativity: Devising an outdoor mobile augmented reality tool

    Author : Hyekyung Imottesjo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Urban Rules; Emergent processes; outdoor mobile augmented reality; Compact city; Complex adaptive systems; Urban resilience; collaborative design; research-through-design;

    Abstract : The unpredictability of global geopolitical conflicts, economic trends, and impacts of climate change, coupled with an increasing urban population, necessitates a more profound commitment to resilience thinking in urban planning and design. In contrast to top-down planning and designing for sustainability, allowing for emergence to take place seems to contribute to a capacity to better deal with this complex unpredictability, by allowing incremental changes through bottom-up, self-organized adaptation made by diverse actors in the proximity of various social, economical and functional entities in the urban context. 2. 7. The Quest for the Room of Requirement - Why Some Activity-based Flexible Offices Work While Others Do Not

    Author : Maral Babapour Chafi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : The overarching purpose of this thesis is to develop further knowledge of the consequences of relocating to Activity-based Flexible Offices (AFOs). As workspace design innovations, AFOs are increasingly implemented in organisations. AFOs comprise a variety of workspaces for employees to choose from depending on their preferences or activities. 3. 8. Modalities of Place: On Polarisation and Exclusion in Concepts of Place and in Site-Specific Art

    Author : Gunnar Sandin; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; interior design; Architecture; Actants; Modalities; Place; Site-Specific Art; Arkitektur; inredningsarkitektur;

    Abstract : In this thesis the notion of place is studied by way of investigating the “non-place” which is excluded or opposed, whenever a place is defined. “Non-place” is used here as a meta-concept, covering various recurring types of opposition to “place,” and it therefore represents a profoundly incoherent spect-rum of realities and concepts. 4. 9. Planning Design Automation Systems - Criteria and Guidelines

    Author : Mikael Cederfeldt; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Synthesis; Potential; Variant design; Design automation; Need; Process maturity; Planning; and Evaluation.;

    Abstract : Design automation can be a powerful tool in the continuous endeavour to cut lead times, workloads, and, ultimately, costs in order to become more competitive in an increasingly globalised market. Identifying a need for design automation is, consequently, not difficult. What becomes a lot more difficult is identifying the actual need, i.e. READ MORE

  5. 10. Support for the conceptual design stage of effective and resource-efficient offerings : A pragmatic and cross-disciplinary approach

    Author : Sergio Brambila; Tomohiko Sakao; Anne-Marie Tillman; Vicky Lofthouse; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; cross-disciplinary; designing; efficient; effective; lifecycle; support;

    Abstract : Human activities in the form of production and consumption have increased to an all-time high. In many cases, this increase has resulted in environmental problems such as waste and pollution that, in turn, affect our health and way of living. Societies have proposed different measures to address such environmental problems. READ MORE
