  1. 21. Shape and Being Shaped : Sketching with Haptics in Soma Design

    Author : Charles Windlin; Kristina Höök; Jarmo Laaksolahti; Anders Lundström; Bill Buxton; KTH; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sketching; Soma Design; Constructive Design Research; Haptic Interaction Design; first-person; Människa-datorinteraktion; Human-computer Interaction;

    Abstract : Sketching is an integral part of the design process, and it often occurs in the early ideation phase where the focus is on expressing ideas, thoughts, and emotions, allowing them to take shape and making it possible to share them with others to propel the design process forwards. In principle, sketching is a process of externalising thoughts into visualisations, and it influences the creator and collaborators by enabling them to realise and reflect on the possibility and viability of their ideas and develop them further by adding to or subtracting from the sketches. 2. 22. Participatory inquiry : Collaborative Design

    Author : Martin Johansson; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Design informed by ethnography; Work practice based design; Participatory inquiry; Collaborative design; Design games; Interaction Design; Human Computer Interaction; Participatory Design;

    Abstract : This dissertation focuses on design sessions in which users and stakeholders participate. It demonstrates how material from field studies can be used in exploratory design sessions. The emphasis is on the staging and realization of experiments with ‘possible futures’. READ MORE

  3. 23. Toward Inclusive Pharmaceutical Packaging : An Innovation and Design Process Perspective

    Author : Giana Lorenzini; Förpackningslogistik; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Inclusive Design; Packaging Design; Packaging Innovation; Pharmaceutical Packaging;

    Abstract : Pharmaceutical packaging has an increasing importance in aging societies, wherepeople depend on medicines for their own care and well-being. Previous research shows that pharmaceutical packaging is a source of uncertainties, confusion, and daily struggles. READ MORE

  4. 24. Designing Together: A Frugal Design Approach. Exploring Participatory Design in a Global North-South Cooperation Context

    Author : Helena Hansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Design; Hållbar utveckling; Sustainable development; Design; Sverige; Kenya;

    Abstract : Since the turn of the millennium, participatory designers have increasingly begun to engage in collaborative research processes in the so-called Global South, targeting sustainable development. The quest is to take on the larger challenges through cooperative work, and such a design process is here referred to as Global North–South cooperation. READ MORE

  5. 25. Circular design through co-creation: Exploring perspectives and future directions for design in a circular economy

    Author : Giliam Dokter; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Circular Economy; Co-creation; Design practice; Prototyping; Design for Sustainability; Circular Design;

    Abstract : In the efforts to stimulate sustainable development, the circular economy aims to establish ‘closed-loop’ flows of resources in a way that enables businesses and society to reap benefits from maintaining products, components and materials at their highest utility and value, while simultaneously reducing the generation of waste. Designing for a circular economy will require designers to, more than ever, anticipate how artifacts function and change over time and conceptualise the entire lifecycle (including the design, production, use and end-of-life phase) in a coherent and holistic way.
