6. Sample preconcentration in open microchannels : Combinations with MALDI and nano-ESI mass spectrometry and computer simulations
Abstract : In this thesis a novel concept for preconcentration of biomolecules in open microchannels is presented. The preconcentration is based on electromigration of charged analytes, and detection is performed with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) or nano-electrospray ionization (nESI) mass spectrometry (MS). 7. Method and technique development in peptide and protein mass Spectrometry
Abstract : Mechanistic studies and applicability of several methods and techniques for studying peptides and proteins with mass spectrometry are presented. A model for the protein molecular ion formation in explosive matrix-assisted plasma desorption mass spectrometry is proposed, involving a contribution from the chemical energy release during conversion of the explosive, an enhanced protonation through collisions with products from the explosive decay, and electron scavenging by other products. 8. Tools for applied soft ionization mass spectrometry
Abstract : Mass spectrometry (MS) is an important analytical tool. Its most importantadvantages are sensitivity, resolution, and accurate and precise m/zmeasurements. To get the best results from an instrument, the user musthave knowledge of its limitation and requirements. READ MORE

9. Mass spectrometry of biopolymers based on ion-induced desorption
Abstract : Various aspects of biopolymer molecular characterization by their molecular masses havebeen studied, with emphasis on ion-induced desorption and time-of-flight mass Spectrometry(TOF MS). Limitations of the average-isotopic mass concept, as well as the utility ofaccurate monoisotopic mass measurements for deriving amino-acid and elementalcompositions, are discussed. READ MORE

10. Development and application of alternative methods for profiling proteins N-glycosylation
Abstract : Glycosylation is a post-translational modification (PTM) that exerts profound structural and functional effects on the modified protein. Glycan synthesis and conjugation to proteins are regulated by a myriad of factors, both genetic and environmental, and are also influenced by external stressors. READ MORE
