  1. 1. Provenance of the pre-Quaternary aeolian dust deposits of East Asia

    Author : Katja Bohm; Thomas Stevens; Anu Kaakinen; Alex Pullen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chinese Loess Plateau; Red Clay; mineral dust; sediment provenance; detrital zircon; detrital rutile; Neogene; Paleogene; Earth Science with specialization in Physical Geography; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Atmospheric mineral dust is a key component in the climate system, but its effect on and response to climate changes are poorly understood, especially over long timescales. This thesis investigates the sources of late Paleogene and Neogene dust deposits that formed under warmer-than-present global climates in the northern Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) region in mid-latitude East Asia. 2. 2. Precambrian and Caledonian history of Svalbard’s West Ny Friesland Terrane

    Author : Fredrik Hellman; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geologi; physical geography; Geology; Detrital; Zircon; Svalbard; Caledonides; Spitsbergen; fysisk geografi; Petrology; mineralogy; geochemistry; Petrologi; mineralogi; geokemi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals mainly with age-investigations of metasedimentary and magmatic rocks of Ny Friesland, located in the northeastern Svalbard. However, the provenance of quartz-porphyry clasts in a Devonian conglomerate have also been investigated in northwestern Svalbard. READ MORE

  3. 3. U-Pb dating of detrital zircon from the Mt. Alfred area, Yilgarn Craton, Western Australia

    Author : Ross Kielman; Martin Whitehouse; Alexander Nemchin; Victoria Pease; Åke Johansson; Jenny Andersson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Detrital zircon; Geochronology; Archean; Hadean; Western Australia; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Hadean and Paleo-Eoarchean aged detrital zircon provide a rare glimpse into the nature of the early Earth. Thus, the characterisation of new localities with rocks that host Hadean and Paleo-Eoarchean zircon provide invaluable insight into the Earth’s early crust. READ MORE

  4. 4. Tectonic Evolution of Taimyr in the Late Paleozoic to Mesozoic from Provenance and Thermochronological Evidence

    Author : Xiaojing Zhang; Victoria Pease; Arild Andresen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Taimyr; sandstones; provenance; heavy mineral analysis; detrital zircon; apatite fission track; tectonic setting; uplift; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : The Taimyr Peninsula is a key element in the circum-Arctic region and represents thenorthern margin of the Siberian Craton. The Taimyr Peninsula is a late Paleozoic fold andthrust belt and preserves late Paleozoic through Mesozoic siliciclastic sedimentarysuccessions and providing an ideal location to investigate the Paleozoic to Mesozoictectonic evolution associated with the Uralian orogeny, the Siberian Trap magmatism andopening of Amerasia Basin within a circum-Arctic framework. 5. 5. Assessing the reliability of detrital zircon in Early-Earth provenance studies

    Author : Ross Kielman; Martin Whitehouse; Alexander Nemchin; Victoria Pease; Marlina Elburg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Our understanding of the Early Earth and the processes that have shaped its evolution have spawned predominantly from the geochemical and isotopic signatures of a small number of zircon populations around the world. Studies of trace element distributions, Hf and O isotope systematics as well as mineral inclusion chemistry in detrital zircon are combined with U-Pb chronology in order to constrain source rock characteristics.
