16. Design, Processing, and Characterization of High Frequency Flip Chip Interconnects
Abstract : The demands for high frequency interconnect techniques for microwave integrated circuits (ICs) are growing with increasing operating frequencies of wireless communication systems. Interconnects have significant effect and impact on the overall system performance at high frequencies. READ MORE

17. Ultraviolet vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers and vertical microcavities for blue lasers
Abstract : III-nitride materials are used for ultraviolet (UV) and visible light emitters. One such light source is the vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) that could find applications within areas ranging from sterilization and medical treatment to car headlights and augmented reality displays. 18. Time-resolved x-ray diffraction of nanostructured samples
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is based on time-resolved x-ray diffraction studies of InSb (111) samples. The experiments were carried out using a pump-probe configuration using short laser pulses as the pump and x-rays as the probe. Laser excitation leads to the formation of a strain pulse that propagates through the sample. READ MORE

19. Processing technologies for long-wavelength vertical-cavity lasers
Abstract : Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) areattractive as potential inexpensive high-performance emittersfor fibre-optical communication systems. Their surface-normalemission together with the small dimensions are beneficial forlow-cost fabrication since it allows on-wafer testing, simplified packaging and effective fibre-coupling. READ MORE

20. Transport Studies of Local-Gate Defined Quantum Dots in Nanowires
Abstract : This thesis focuses on electrical transport in semiconductor InAs nanowires grown by chemical beam epitaxy. Initially, transport length scales of homogeneous InAs n-type nanowires are characterized by low-temperature magnetoconductance measurements. The measurements show phase-coherent conductivity corrections. READ MORE
