11. Production and characterization of intraspecific somatic hybrids of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.)
Abstract : A culture protocol has been developed for mesophyll protoplasts isolated from various d¡haploid clones of potato. A large number of call¡ was obtained after serial dilution of the cultures w¡th a suitable amount and type of medium at different stages of cell colony development. READ MORE

12. Heavy metal-induced activation of the murine immune system and autoimmunity : a comparative study of mercury and silver
Abstract : The activation and proliferation ofT- and B-cells induced by treatment with mercuric chloride (HgC12) or silver·nitrate (AgN03) was studied in mouse strains genetically susceptible (SJL, A. SW, A.TH, BALE/C) or resistant (A.TL, BALB. READ MORE

13. Wnt signalling in the development of ventral midbrain dopaminergic neurons
Abstract : Dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the ventral midbrain (VM) are one of the major cell types lost in Parkinson's disease (PD). Proof-of-principle exists for cell replacement therapies for PD, but wider application is halted by the unavailability of abundant sources of DA neurons. Stem cells might constitute one of these sources. READ MORE

15. The importance of major histocompatibility complex class II genes for the development of autoimmune inflammation
Abstract : In this thesis the role of major histocompatibility complex (Mhc) class II molecules in development of autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), was studied. By combining an experimental model for RA, collagen type II induced arthritis (CIA), with molecular biology methods the importance of polymorphism in Mhc class II genes for disease development was investigated.
