  1. 1. The role of galectin-1 in type 2 diabetes. Clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Emanuel Fryk; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; galectin-1; type 2 diabetes; human; adipose tissue; metabolism;

    Abstract : Aim: The purpose of this thesis was to identify a new agent in the subcutaneous adipose tissue and assess its clinical potential in the context of type 2 diabetes. Study I: Through a combination of microdialysis and mass-spectrometry, we found increased galectin-1 levels in the subcutaneous adipose tissue in a small experimental study of 15 men with and without type 2 diabetes. 2. 2. On the role of gut microbiota in intestinal physiology and hepatic metabolism

    Author : Mattias Bergentall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microbiota; metabolism;

    Abstract : The gut microbiota, a complex and dynamic community of microbes in the mammalian gut, has coevolved with us for ample time providing mutual benefits. However, mechanistic knowledge of these has been limited, but are now becoming increasingly clear. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic and phenotypic discordance in cardiometabolic diseases

    Abstract : Cardiometabolic conditions such as obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are among the first causes of death globally, and the number of people affected is rapidly increasing. Both conditions are intricately connected and are associated with many life-threatening cardiovascular disease (CVD). READ MORE

    Author : Jelena Stamenkovic; Diabetes - molekylär metabolism; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CLOCK genes; insulin; glucagon; metabolites; mitochondria; knock out;

    Abstract : Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is a multifactorial disease, which has made it difficult to resolve its pathophysiology. We investigated processes that could contribute to the development of T2D. READ MORE
