  1. 1. An architecture for diagnostic reasoning based on causal models

    Author : Jan Olsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Diagnostiska metoder; Dynamisk programmering; Expertsystem; Databehandling;

    Abstract : This thesis proposes an architecture for diagnostic reasoning employing causal models. The architecture embodies a knowledge representation at the problem-solving layer. That is, the way a problem is solved—in this case to arrive at a diagnosis—is an integral part of the knowledge representation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cost and benefits of cone beam computed tomography : for maxillary canines with eruption disturbance

    Author : Helena Christell; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diagnostic methods; Cost-effectiveness; Economic evaluation; Systematic review; Cost-analysis; Radiology; Odontology; CBCT; Cone beam computed tomography;

    Abstract : I tandvården finns allt fler metoder för prevention, diagnostik och behandling. Eftersom resurserna är begränsade bör den metod väljas där nyttan uppväger kostnaden. Idag saknas dock vetenskapliga belägg gällande kostnadseffektivitet för undersökning med Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular and serological tools for clinical diagnostics of Lyme borreliosis - can the laboratory analysis be improved?

    Author : Malin Lager; Anna J. Henningsson; Peter Wilhelmsson; Per-Eric Lindgren; Andreas Matussek; Fredrik Elgh; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Lyme borreliosis (LB) is caused by spirochetes within the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato complex and is the most common tick-transmitted disease in the northern hemisphere. The transmission of the spirochetes to humans in Europe is done by the Ixodes ricinus ticks, which can also transmit the relapsing fever species Borrelia miyamotoi. READ MORE

  4. 4. Statistical methods in medical image estimation and sparse signal recovery

    Author : Fekadu Lemessa Bayisa; Jun Yu; Ottmar Cronie; Henning Omre; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Computed tomography; magnetic resonance imaging; Gaussian mixture model; skew-Gaussian mixture model; hidden Markov random field; hidden Markov model; supervised statistical learning; synthetic CT images; pseudo-CT images; spike and slab prior; adaptive algorithm;

    Abstract : This thesis presents work on methods for the estimation of computed tomography (CT) images from magnetic resonance (MR) images for a number of diagnostic and therapeutic workflows. The study also demonstrates sparse signal recovery method, which is an intermediate method for magnetic resonance image reconstruction. READ MORE

  5. 5. Clinical and epidemiological aspects of childhood celiac disease

    Author : Pia Laurin; Bo Lundquist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Background: Celiac disease (CD) is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood in many countries. It is a small intestinal disease, caused by gluten in genetically predisposed individuals, but underlying immunological mechanisms are not exactly known. Gluten is found in wheat, rye and barley, and possibly in oats. READ MORE
