  1. 1. Information state based speech recognition

    Author : Rebecca Jonson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; dialogue systems; speech recognition; language modelling; dialogue move; dialogue context; ASR; higher level knowledge; linguistic knowledge; N-Best re-ranking; confidence scoring; confidence annotation; information state; ISU approach;

    Abstract : One of the pitfalls in spoken dialogue systems is the brittleness of automatic speech recognition (ASR). ASR systems often misrecognize user input and they are unreliable when it comes to judging their own performance. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the topic of grounding in human-robot interaction, that is, the process by which the human and robot can ensure mutual understanding. To explore this topic, the scenario of a robot holding a presentation to a human audience is used, where the robot has to process multimodal feedback from the human in order to adapt the presentation to the human's level of understanding. 3. 3. Language Modelling and Error Handling in Spoken Dialogue Systems

    Author : Genevieve Gorrell; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Language Modelling; Spoken Dialogue Systems; Error Handling; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : Language modelling for speech recognition is an area of research currently divided between two main approaches: stochastic and grammar-based approaches are each being differently preferred for their respective strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, dialogue systems researchers are becoming aware of the potential value of handling recognition failures better to improve the user experience. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling Paralinguistic Conversational Interaction : Towards social awareness in spoken human-machine dialogue

    Author : Daniel Neiberg; Joakim Gustafson; Nigel Ward; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Parallel with the orthographic streams of words in conversation are multiple layered epiphenomena, short in duration and with a communicativepurpose. These paralinguistic events regulate the interaction flow via gaze,gestures and intonation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Enthymemes in Dialogue: A micro-rhetorical approach

    Author : Ellen Breitholtz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Topos; Enthymeme; ; TTR; Dialogue modelling; Non-monotonic reasoning; Accommodation; Micro-rhetoric; Gameboard semantics;

    Abstract : In dialogue we frequently present arguments which are based on commonly accepted non-logical inferences. In rhetorical theory, this type of argument is called an enthymeme, and a pattern of reasoning that it is based on is called a topos. The main purpose of this thesis is to investigate the role that enthymemes play in natural language dialogue. READ MORE
