1. PET in Heart Failure - Methods and Applications
Abstract : Positron Emission Tomography (PET) permits regional myocardial perfusion, fibrosis and oxidative metabolism to be non-invasively quantified with radioactive tracers such as [15O]-water and [1-11C]-acetate. PET is an established research tool in congestive heart failure (CHF), a major cause of morbidity and mortality. READ MORE

2. Mechanical and histological disturbances in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation
Abstract : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish capability and accuracy of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA), left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) function and their correlation with myocardial fibrosis, filling pressure and clinical outcomes in advanced heart failure (HF) patients before and after heart transplantation (HT).I demonstrated that HT recipients had impaired LV twist dynamics in the form of reduced rotation twist angle and untwist rate but time to peak twist was not different from the age matched controls and other cardiac surgical patients. 3. Risk Factors and Predictors of Heart Failure: from Incidence to Prognosis
Abstract : Background: Heart failure (HF) is a major public health problem affecting at least 26 million people worldwide and one of the leading causes of disability and death. Aims: To identify characteristics associated with improved or worsened prognosis in patients with established HF and to study factors associated with higher risk for the incidence of HF in the general population. 4. Prognostic and diagnostic value of tissue Doppler in patients with systolic heart failure
Abstract : Heart failure (HF) is a condition where the heart fails to meet the need of delivery of oxygen and energy to the tissues. In spite of advances in the recent decades, the prognosis is still serious with a mortality risk comparable to severe cancer. The most common heart imaging method today is ultrasound of the heart, or echocardiography. READ MORE

5. Heart failure in primary health care : special emphasis on natriuretic peptides in the elderly
Abstract : Background: This thesis focuses on heart failure among elderly patients in the community who usually are not included in studies on heart failure. The heart failure syndrome is an increasing problem in Western society. READ MORE
