  1. 1. Applications of diffusion MRI: Tensor-valued encoding, time-dependent diffusion, and histological validation

    Author : Jan Brabec; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diffusion MRI; meningioma; glioma; brain tumors; intracranial tumors; undulations; restricted diffusion; time dependence; spherical b-tensor encoding; linear b-tensor encoding; histogram analysis; anisotropic kurtosis; isotropic kurtosis; hyperintensity; conspicuity; white matter; detection; diffusion spectrum; consistency; type; grade; axon diameter; axonal trajectories; Fysicumarkivet A:2022:Brabec;

    Abstract : Diffusion MRI (dMRI) sensitizes the MR signal to the diffusion of water molecules at the microscopic level and thereby non-invasively probes tissue microstructure. This is relevant when determining biological properties of tissues, for example, cancer type and its malignancy. READ MORE

  2. 2. Investigation of Water Mobility using Diffusion-Sensitive MRI: The Role of q-Space Imaging, High b-Values and Diffusion Time

    Author : Jimmy Lätt; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MRI; kurtosis; high b-value; diffusion; diffusion time; NMR; q-space;

    Abstract : Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) diffusometry provides important information about molecular motion on a microscopic scale. The advantage of NMR diffusometry is its ability to characterise microstructures non-invasively. This has made the method important not only in chemistry, biochemistry and materials science, but also in medicine. READ MORE

  3. 3. Computational Diffusion MRI: Optimal Gradient Encoding Schemes

    Author : Mohammad Alipoor; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gradient Encoding Scheme; ADC imaging; Diffusion MRI; D-optimal experiment design; Diffusion Tensor Imaging; Optimal Image acquisition; Second and Fourth Order Tensors.; Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging;

    Abstract : Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) is a non-invasivestructural imaging technique that provides information about tissue microstructures.Quantitative measures derived from dMRI reflect pathologicaland developmental changes in living tissues such as human brain. 4. 4. Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Parkinsons's disease and related disoders

    Author : Yulia Surova; Lund Neurologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mr Imaging; DTI; Parkinson s disease; Progressive supranuclear palsy; Multiple system atrophy;

    Abstract : Objectives: To identify diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in the cerebral white (WM) and the deep grey matter (GM) in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and atypical parkinsonian syndromes (APS) using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods: Patients with a clinical diagnosis of PD, multiple system atrophy (MSA) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) were included in the study. READ MORE

  5. 5. Brain anatomical correlates of perceptual phonological proficiency and language learning aptitude

    Author : Mikael Novén; Allmän språkvetenskap; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prosody; word accent; MRI; language learning aptitude; cortical morphometry; diffusion kurtosis imaging;

    Abstract : The present dissertation concerns how brain tissue properties reflect proficiency in two aspects of language use: the ability to use tonal cues on word stems to predict how words will end and the aptitude for learning foreign languages. While it is known that people differ in their language abilities and that damage to brain tissue cause loss of cognitive functions, it is largely unknown if differences in language proficiencies correlate with differences in brain structure.
