1. On Turbulent Wall Jets
Abstract : An experimental investigation of the two- and three-dimensional turbulent wall jets has been conducted. The measurements have been performed using different hot-wire techniques in large scale wall jet facilities, and the measurements were focused on the fully-developed region of the flow. READ MORE

2. On two-dimensional conformal geometry related to the Schramm-Loewner evolution
Abstract : This thesis contains three papers, one introductory chapter and one chapter with overviews of the papers and some additional results. The topic of this thesis is the geometry of models related to the Schramm-Loewner evolution. In Paper I, we derive a multifractal boundary spectrum for SLEκ(ρ) processes with κ.. READ MORE

3. Characteristic properties of two-dimensional superconductors close to the phase transition in zero magnetic field
Abstract : The main focus of this thesis lies on the critical properties of twodimensional (2D) superconductors in zero magnetic field. Simulations based on variants of the 2D XY model are shown to give characteristic features close to the phase transition which agree qualitatively with experimental data. READ MORE

4. Teaching and learning mathematics with integrated small-group discussions. A learning study about scaling geometric figures
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between teaching and student learning in mathematics when small-group discussions are used in teaching. This thesis focuses on student learning of specific subject matter when small group discussions are used in whole-class teaching. READ MORE

5. Critical Scaling in Particle Systems and Random Graphs
Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to study the behavior of macro-systems through their micro-parameters. In particular, we are interested in finding critical scaling in various models.Paper I investigates the influence of discrete-time collisions on particle dynamics. READ MORE
