  1. 1. Lipoprotein lipase-unstable on purpose?

    Author : Liyan Zhang; Gunilla Olivecrona; Cecilia Holm; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Biochemistry; Lipoprotein lipase; Apolipoprotein CII; dimerization; monomerization; Molecular chaperones; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is a central enzyme in lipid metabolism. It is a non-covalent, homodimeric and N-glycosylated protein, which is regulated in a tissue-specific manner and is dependent on an activator protein, apolipoprotein CII. Dissociation of active LPL dimers to monomers leads to loss of activity. READ MORE

  2. 2. The effect of sequence truncation and amino-acid substitutions on the biophysical properties of protein S and calbindin D9k

    Author : Karin Julenius; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; surface plasmon resonance; fluorescence spectroscopy; circular dichroism spectroscopy; NMR spectroscopy; hydrophobic effect; protein stability; dimerization; cooperativity; calcium binding; EGF-module; EF-hand; calbindin D9k; protein S; synthet; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Protein S is a modular protein and a cofactor in the protein C anticoagulant system. It consists of a Gla-module, a thrombin-sensitive loop, four EGF-modules and a SHBG-like module. READ MORE

  3. 3. Properties of Protein and Polymer Systems

    Author : Fredrik Carlsson; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; lysozyme; mica; surface; dimerization; precipitation; aggregate; cluster; complex; polyelectrolyte; protein; polymer;

    Abstract : Interactions of proteins with other proteins, with polymers and with surfaces are of great practical importance within for instance protein purification, drug delivery, and food technology. The aim of this work is to increase the understanding of protein-protein, protein-polyelectrolyte, and protein-surface interactions, particularly concerning the role of electrostatic interactions in these systems. 4. 4. Structure and morphology control of organic semiconductors for functional optoelectronic applications

    Author : Jenny Enevold; Ludvig Edman; Thomas Wågberg; Christian Müller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic electronics; organic photonics; patterning; fullerene; polymerization; dimerization; spray-deposition; morphology; small molecule donor; high open-circuit voltage;

    Abstract : The functionality and application of organic semiconductors are largely dependent on their constituent structure and morphology. This thesis presents a number of functional and novel approaches for the control and tuning of structural and morphological features of a variety of organic semiconductor materials, and also demonstrates that these approaches can be utilized for improved device operation of field-effect transistors, organic solar cells and light-emitting electrochemical cells.
