  1. 1. Disease surveillance systems

    Author : Baki Cakici; Magnus Boman; Stefan Johansson; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; disease surveillance; syndromic surveillance; outbreak detection; health informatics; computer science; Health and medical services in society; Hälso- och sjukvård i samhället; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi; Computer and systems science; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : Recent advances in information and communication technologies have made the development and operation of complex disease surveillance systems technically feasible, and many systems have been proposed to interpret diverse data sources for health-related signals. Implementing these systems for daily use and efficiently interpreting their output, however, remains a technical challenge. READ MORE

  2. 2. Automating levodopa dosing schedules for Parkinson’s disease

    Author : Ilias Thomas; Jerker Westin; Moudud Alam; Björn Eskofier; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; levodopa; symptom assessment; symptom management; dosing algorithms; wearable sensors; microtablets; continuous infusion; FLOAT - Flexible Levodopa Optimizing Assistive Technology; FLOAT - Flexibel levodopa-optimerings och individanpassningsteknik;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Levodopa is mainly used to manage the motor symptoms of PD. However, disease progression and long-term use of levodopa cause reduced medication efficacy and side effects. When that happens, precise individualized dosing schedules are required. READ MORE

    Abstract : A challenge for the clinical management of Parkinson's disease (PD) is the large within- and between-patient variability in symptom profiles as well as the emergence of motor complications which represent a significant source of disability in patients. This thesis deals with the development and evaluation of methods and systems for supporting the management of PD by using repeated measures, consisting of subjective assessments of symptoms and objective assessments of motor function through fine motor tests (spirography and tapping), collected by means of a telemetry touch screen device. 4. 4. Optimizing levodopa dosing routines for Parkinson’s disease

    Author : Ilias Thomas; Jerker Westin; Moudud Alam; Alexander Medvedev; Högskolan Dalarna; []

    Abstract : This thesis in the field of microdata analysis aims to introduce dose optimizing algorithms for the pharmacological management of Parkinson’s disease (PD). PD is a neurodegenerative disease that mostly affects the motor functions of the patients and it is characterized as a movement disorder. READ MORE

  5. 5. Carotid artery disease : plaque features and vulnerability

    Author : Fisnik Jashari; Michael Henein; Per Wester; Christine Kremer; Umeå universitet; []
