1. Optical Characterization and Optimization of Display Components : Some Applications to Liquid-Crystal-Based and Electrochromics-Based Devices
Abstract : This dissertation is focused on theoretical and experimental studies of optical properties of materials and multilayer structures composing liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and electrochromic (EC) devices. By applying spectroscopic ellipsometry, we have determined the optical constants of thin films of electrochromic tungsten oxide (WOx) and nickel oxide (NiOy), the films’ thickness and roughness. 2. Novel architectures for flexible electrochemical devices and systems
Abstract : Electrically conducting polymers were discovered in the late 1970s. This finding generated a whole new research area named organic electronics, an area which has attracted great interest and tremendous achievements, in terms of devices and applications, have been reached by different research groups all over the world. 3. Electrochromic Properties of Iridium Oxide Based Thin Films
Abstract : Electrochromic iridium oxide (IrOx) and iridium-tantalum oxide (IrTaOx) thin films were prepared by reactive magnetron sputtering. Composition, density, and structure were determined using Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and electron energy loss spectroscopy. 4. All-Thin-Film Electrochromic Devices for Optical and Thermal Modulation
Abstract : The optical properties of electrochromic materials can be changed by application of an electrical voltage. The conventional electrochromic device consists of several thin films of electrochromic materials and layers for electron- and ion conduction. READ MORE

5. Theoretical studies of lattice- and spin-polarons
Abstract : Theoretical studies of lattice- and spin-polarons are presented in this thesis, where the primary tool is ab-initio electronic structure calculations. The studies are performed with employment of a variety of analytical and computational methods. READ MORE
