  1. 1. Analysis and Design of Spatially-Coupled Codes with Application to Fiber-Optical Communications

    Author : Christian Häger; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bit mapper; generalized product codes; generalized low-density parity-check codes; bounded-distance decoding; density evolution; spatial coupling; staircase codes.; braided codes; Bit-interleaved coded modulation;

    Abstract : The theme of this thesis is the analysis and design of error-correcting codes that are suitable for high-speed fiber-optical communication systems. In particular, we consider two code classes. The codes in the first class are protograph-based low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes which are decoded using iterative soft-decision decoding. 2. 2. Multirate Codes and Multicarrier Modulation for Future Communication Systems

    Author : Pål Frenger; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; channel estimation; code-spread CDMA; DS-CDMA; convolutional codes; interference cancellation; nested convolutional codes; multicarrier modulation; optimum distance spectrum ODS ; rate-compatible punctured convolutional codes RCPC-codes ; OFDM; turbo decoding; rate matching; parallel combinatory signaling; Rayleigh fading;

    Abstract : In this thesis, new detection and modulation methods for multicarrier systems are presented. The proposed multicarrier detectors are based on feedback of previously detected symbols and the idea is to exploit the correlation, both in time between consecutive symbols, and in frequency between neighboring sub-carriers. 3. 3. Coding of fractal binary images with contractive set mappings composed of affine transformations

    Author : Niclas Wadströmer; Dietmar Saupe; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : There are several efficient algorithms by which one can generate approximations of binaryattractors induced from contractive set mappings which are composed of affine mappings.There are also complex attractors resembling natural-looking images where the attractors areinduced from only a few affine mappings which can be represented with a few bits. 4. 4. Phase Modulation Techniques for On-Off Keying in Optical Fibre Transmission

    Author : Marco Forzati; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; return-to-zero; fibre optics communication; phase modulation; nonlinear optics; dispersion management; high-speed optical transmission; modulation formats; fibres;

    Abstract : Increasing the channel bit rate is an efficient way to upgrade traffic capacity in installed transmission links. At bit rates of the order of 40 Gb/s, on-off keying (OOK) transmission becomes severely impaired by non-linear effects especially Intra-channel Four-Wave Mixing (IFWM) which limit the power at which the signal can be transmitted, and ultimately the transmission distance. 5. 5. On the labeling of Signal Constellations

    Author : Johan Lassing; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The work in this thesis studies a simple model of a digital communication system in which the transmitter operates on a sequence of information bits by grouping them into blocks of m bits and mapping such blocks onto one out of M = 2m waveforms, which is transmitted over the channel. The receiver recovers the original message by demapping the transmitted signals disturbed by noise back to m-bit blocks using maximum-likelihood symbol detection. READ MORE
