  1. 16. Getting engaged in cooperation : Design, distance, and distributed work

    Author : Mårten Pettersson; Daniel Spikol; Martin Wetterstrand; Kari Rönkkö; Teresa Cerratto-Pargman; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cooperative work; distributed collaboration; computer-supported cooperative work; engagement in cooperative work; shared materials and artefacts;

    Abstract : Cooperative work differs depending on contexts and tasks, whether co-located, synchronous, or distributed in time and space. New technology allows new opportunities to support cooperation. A central aspect of cooperation is the relation to individual work; when co-located, people enter and exit cooperation seamlessly. 2. 17. Distributed cognition in home environments : The prospective memory and cognitive practices of older adults

    Author : Mattias Forsblad (Kristiansson); Nils Dahlbäck; Corinna Kruse; Fredrik Stjernberg; Oskar Lindwall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Distributed cognition; intelligent use of space; cognitive aging;

    Abstract : In this thesis I explore how older people make use of, and interact with, their physical environment in home and near-by settings to manage cognitive situations, specifically prospective memory situations. Older adults have in past research been shown to perform better on prospective memory in real-life settings than what findings in laboratory-like settings predict. READ MORE

  3. 18. Distributed Stochastic Programming with Applications to Large-Scale Hydropower Operations

    Author : Martin Biel; Mikael Johansson; Lennart Söder; David Woodruff; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; stochastic programming; distributed; algorithms; large-scale; optimization; hydropower; software; julia language; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Stochastic programming is a subfield of mathematical programming concerned with optimization problems subjected to uncertainty. Many engineering problems with random elements can be accurately modeled as a stochastic program. In particular, decision problems associated with hydropower operations motivate the application of stochastic programming. READ MORE

  4. 19. Distributed thermal response tests : New insights on U-pipe and Coaxial heat exchangers in groundwater-filled boreholes

    Author : José Acuña; Björn Palm; Jeffrey Spitler; KTH; []

    Abstract : U-pipe Borehole Heat Exchangers (BHE) are widely used today in ground source heating and cooling systems in spite of their less than optimal performance. This thesis provides a better understanding on the function of U-pipe BHEs and Investigates alternative methods to reduce the temperature difference between the circulating fluid and the borehole wall, including one thermosyphon and three different types of coaxial BHEs. 5. 20. Managing Applications and Data in Distributed Computing Infrastructures

    Author : Salman Zubair Toor; Sverker Holmgren; Dirk Düllmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Distributed Computing Infrastructures; Grids; Clouds; Application Management; Distributed Storage; Resource Allocation; Beräkningsvetenskap; Scientific Computing;

    Abstract : During the last decades the demand for large-scale computational and storage resources in science has increased dramatically. New computational infrastructures enable scientists to enter a new mode of science, e-science, which complements traditional theory and experiments. READ MORE
