  1. 21. Vestibular schwannoma : Clinical, Epidemiological and Biochemical perspectives

    Author : Christine Ölander; Göran Laurell; Per Olof Eriksson; Helge Rask-Andersen; Olafur Gudjonsson; Elina Mäki-Torkko; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vestibular schwannoma; surgical complications; hearing; fall-related injury; proteomics; endolymphatic sac; epidemiology; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; Oto-rhino-laryngologi; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Abstract : Vestibular schwannoma (VS) is a slow growing benign tumour originating in the Schwann cells surrounding the vestibulocochlear nerve. Over recent decades, the incidence rate for VS has steadily increased, with greater numbers of patients with smaller tumours being diagnosed. READ MORE

  2. 22. Radiofrequency fields : exposure, dose and health

    Author : Jonna Wilén; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electromagnetic fields; SAR; Specific Absorption; subjective symptoms;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis is to increase our knowledge of relevant exposure parameters when discussing possible health implication from exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF), especially effects that might occur at non-thermal levels.In this thesis an effort is made to broaden the exposure assessment and to take the exposure time into account and combine it with the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and the field parameters (electric and magnetic field strength) to approach a dose concept. 3. 23. Ride comfort and motion sickness in tilting trains

    Author : Johan Förstberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tilting train; Ride comfort; Motion sickness; Simulator; Experiments;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a systematic study of human responses to different motions and strategies of car body tilt control regarding ride comfort, working/reading ability and motion sickness on high-speed tilting trains. Experiments with test subjects were performed in a tilting train on curved track as well as in a moving vehicle simulator. READ MORE

  4. 24. Methodological aspects of unspecific building related symptoms research

    Author : Bo Glas; Berndt Stenberg; Anna-Lena Sunesson; Erik Zimerson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sick building syndrome; SBS; exposure measurement; GC-MS; questionnaire; symptom; variability; PCA; PLS-DA; Occupational medicine; Yrkesmedicin;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with methological issues in the study of chemical exposure and sick building syndrome (SBS). SBS is a combination of general, mucosal and skin symptoms that some people experience when staying in specific buildings. The aim was to find chemical patterns associated with SBS, but also to address methological problems in such study. READ MORE

  5. 25. Biomechanical assessment of head and neck movements in neck pain using 3D movement analysis

    Author : Helena Grip; Gertjan Ettema; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : movement analysis; kinematics; helical axis; neck pain; whiplash; cervical spine; pattern classification; motor control; head-eye co-ordination; head movement; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Abstract : Three-dimensional movement analysis was used to evaluate head and neck movement in patients with neck pain and matched controls. The aims were to further develop biomechanical models of head and neck kinematics, to investigate differences between subjects with non-specific neck pain and whiplash associated disorders (WAD), and to evaluate the potential of objective movement analysis as a decision support during diagnosis and follow-up of patients with neck pain.
