  1. 1. Discourse in Statistical Machine Translation

    Author : Christian Hardmeier; Joakim Nivre; Jörg Tiedemann; Marcello Federico; Lluís Màrquez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistical machine translation; Discourse-level machine translation; Document decoding; Local search; Pronominal anaphora; Pronoun translation; Neural networks; Computational Linguistics; Datorlingvistik;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the technical and linguistic aspects of discourse-level processing in phrase-based statistical machine translation (SMT). Connected texts can have complex text-level linguistic dependencies across sentences that must be preserved in translation. However, the models and algorithms of SMT are pervaded by locality assumptions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Interpreting the Script : Image Analysis and Machine Learning for Quantitative Studies of Pre-modern Manuscripts

    Author : Fredrik Wahlberg; Anders Brun; Lasse Mårtensson; Ewert Bengtsson; Apostolos Antonacopoulos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; document analysis; machine learning; image analysis; digital humanities; document dating; writer identification; text recognition; Datavetenskap; Computer Science;

    Abstract : The humanities have for a long time been a collection of fields that have not gained from the advancements in computational power, as predicted by Moore´s law.  Fields like medicine, biology, physics, chemistry, geology and economics have all developed quantitative tools that take advantage of the exponential increase of processing power over time. 3. 3. Some Notes on Post-Quantum Cryptanalysis

    Author : Erik Mårtensson; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cryptography; Post-quantum cryptography; LWE; BKW; Cryptanalysis; Lattice sieving; SVP; Lattice-based cryptography; Code-based cryptography;

    Abstract : Cryptography as it is used today relies on a foundational level on the assumptionthat either the Integer Factoring Problem (IFP) or the DiscreteLogarithm Problem (DLP) is computationally intractable. In the 1990s PeterShor developed a quantum algorithm that solves both problems in polynomialtime. READ MORE

  4. 4. Content and Resource Management in Edge Networks

    Author : Mohammadhassan Safavi; Nätverk och säkerhet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Content delivery networks; Machine Learning; Internet of Things; Fog Computing;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we investigate and develop new methods for efficient and functional use of resources in edge networks. Setting this work aside from previous work, we study User Generated Content (UGC) such as social media information and data generated in the new emerging Internet of Things systems. READ MORE
