  1. 1. Speciation analysis of butyl- and phenyltin compounds in environmental samples by GC separation and atomic spectrometric detection

    Author : Dong Nguyen Van; Wolfgang Frech; Anders Cedergren; Erwin Rosenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organotin speciation analysis; species-specific isotope dilution; inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry; single isotope spike; multi-isotope spike; redistribution; species transformation; preparative liquid chromatography; gas chromatography; line source atomic absorption spectrometry; continuum source atomic absorption spectrometry; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The main goal of the work presented in this thesis is to improve the reliability of existing methods for speciation analysis of organotin compounds Species-specific isotope dilution (SSID) calibration in combination with gas chromatography – inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used to investigate the transformation of phenyltin species during sample preparation. Isotope-enriched phenyltin species were synthesized from corresponding isotope-enriched tin metals. READ MORE

  2. 2. Soil Degradation of Raised-beds on Orchards in the Mekong Delta Field and Laboratory Methods

    Author : Quang Pham Van; Per-Erik Jansson; Khoa Le Van; Ingmar Messing; KTH; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; citrus orchards; nutrient; soil fertility; soil strength; soil degradation; alluvial soil; Mekong delta;

    Abstract : Soil degradation is a complex process which may occur anywhere and at any time. It directly affects the physical, chemical and biological processes within the soil profile. Soil degradation can either be as a result of natural hazards or due to manmade actions, such as mismanagement on cropping patterns, soil preparation and cultivation practices. READ MORE

  3. 3. Evaluating implementation strategies for improved food safety in Vietnam

    Author : Hai Hoang Tuan Ngo; Johanna Lindahl; Mats Målqvist; Hung Nguyen-Viet; Fred Unger; Phuc Pham-Duc; Coen van Wagenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Food safety; Intervention; Pork value chain; Cost of illness; Cost-Benefit analysis; Microbial contamination; Experimental auction; Salmonella;

    Abstract : Pork is the most popular and consumed meat in Vietnam, and the preference among consumers for fresh and “warm” pork makes the traditional pork value chain dominate the pork industry. This thesis assessed microbial contamination in pork, then evaluated the technical and economic aspects of light-touch interventions in improving the safety of pork in the small-scale value chain.
