  1. 1. Stem cell transplantation and regeneration after dorsal root avulsion

    Author : Carl Trolle; Elena Kozlova; Adam Reid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regeneration; dorsal root; sensory nerve; nerve injury; cell transplantation; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Spinal root avulsion leads to paralysis and loss of sensory function. Surgical methods can improve motor function and ameliorate pain but sensory recovery in adults is poor. Previous studies have shown that cell transplantation or treatment with trophic factors can improve functional outcome in rodents after dorsal root transection or crush. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nucleoporins and Protein Transport in Drosophila

    Author : Peggy Roth; Christos Samakovlis; Volker Cordes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NPC; Nucleoporin; Nup88; Nup214; CRM1; Dorsal; Drosophila; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : Many biological responses rely on the selective translocation of transcriptional regulators in and out of the nucleus through nuclear pore complexes (NPC). More than one million macromolecules per minute pass through the NPC and an important challenge is to understand the coordination of nucleocytoplasmic trafficking. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional study of Nucleoporins Nup88 and Nup214 during Drosophila Development

    Author : Nikos Xylourgidis; Christos Samakovlis; Valerie Doye; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mbo; Nup88; CAN; Nup214; NPC; CRM1; embargoed; NF-kB; REL; Dorsal; Dif; Drosophila; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : More than a million macromolecules per minute pass through the nuclear envelope of a eukaryotic cell. An important challenge is to understand how the NPC coordinate efficiently the bi-directional trafficking necessary for the basal cellular activities and the rapid translocation of regulatory proteins in response to signaling. 4. 4. Long-term outcome of children with cerebral palsy undergoing selective dorsal rhizotomy

    Author : Annika Lundkvist; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; selective dorsal rhizotomy; outcomes; long-term follow-up; Cerebral palsy; children; function; physiotherapy;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the thesis was to describe long-term development of functional outcomes in children with cerebral palsy undergoing selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) combined with physiotherapy and to evaluate measures used in follow-up. Five years after SDR muscle tone was reduced, passive range of motion (PROM) increased in hip, knee and foot, gross motor function measured by the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) improved as well as functional performance and independence by the Pediatric Evaluation Disability Inventory. 5. 5. Specification of Dorsal and Intermediate Telencephalic Character

    Author : Matthew Marklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; telencephalon; forebrain; dorsoventral patterning; WNT; FGF; RA; retinoid-mediated signaling; development; specification; cortex; striatal; intermediate; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The telencephalon is the most highly evolved region of the vertebrate central nervous system (CNS). The major structures of the telencephalon - the cortex and basal ganglia – derive from the dorsally positioned pallium and the ventrally positioned subpallium, respectively. READ MORE
