  1. 16. A Model of Driver Perception and Action in Intersections

    Author : Anna Bjelkemyr; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; intersection; vehicle heading; driving; behavior; driver; perception; eye movement; anticipate;

    Abstract : The objective of the research presented in this thesis is to describe driver behavior while approaching, entering and exiting an intersection. To fulfill this objective, two semi-naturalistic studies were conducted where ten driver participants drove a test vehicle through a three-way intersection repeatedly, driving straight, turning left, and turning right in a total of six possible passes. 2. 17. Driver interaction with vulnerable road users: Understanding and modelling driver behaviour for the design and evaluation of intelligent safety systems

    Author : Christian-Nils Åkerberg Boda; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Euro NCAP; bicyclist; counterfactual analysis; driver behaviour; pedestrian; driver model; Active safety;

    Abstract : Every year, more than 5000 pedestrians and 2000 cyclists die on European roads. These vulnerable road users (VRU) are at especially high risk when interacting with motorised vehicles. READ MORE

    Abstract : Microscopic traffic simulation has proven to be a useful tool for analysis of varioustraffic systems. This thesis consider microscopic traffic simulation of rural roads andthe use of traffic simulation for evaluation of driver assistance systems. READ MORE

  4. 19. Cognitive Workload and the Driver : Understanding the Effects of Cognitive Workload on Driving from a Human Information Processing Perspective

    Author : Christopher J.D. Patten; Ola Svenson; Håkan Alm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cognitive workload; human information processing; driver distraction; human error; performance shaping factors PSF ; intelligent transport systems ITS ; peripheral detection task PDT ; Psychology; Psykologi; psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : This doctoral dissertation in psychology focuses on present day transport research issues. Society is affected by the way that our transport system works. In one way or another, the use of the transport system involves different levels of human involvement and control. READ MORE

  5. 20. Driver Preferences of Steering Characteristics

    Author : Markus Agebro; Annika Stensson; Lars Drugge; Christopher Patten; KTH; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Driver preferences; Steering characteristics; Steering systems; Driving simulator experiments; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : The future of vehicle steering systems lies within by-wire technology. With by-wire technology mechanical or hydraulic systems are replaced by electronic systems. Removal of the steering column and possibly other linkage and gears yields vast potential of further improvement of performance, comfort and safety. READ MORE
