  1. 1. Translational Tumor Drug Delivery : Doxorubicin formulation performance, intracellular uptake and molecular diffusion

    Author : Oliver Degerstedt; Hans Lennernäs; Erik Sjögren; Per Hansson; Jessica Rosenholm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; doxorubicin; drug diffusion; cellular uptake; drug delivery; PBPK modelling; hepatocellular carcinoma; emulsion; IC50; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : Globally, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of liver cancer and a leading cause of cancer death. One important risk factor is liver cirrhosis and the disease progression is characterized by deposition of extracellular matrix proteins that form a fibrous network, which increases liver stiffness and may limit the effectiveness of different treatment strategies. 2. 2. Ceramic Materials as Drug Delivery Systems

    Author : Amina Vazda; Håkan Engqvist; Santos Hélder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Drug delivery; ceramics; Abuse deterrent; inhalation; single-crystals;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to evaluate ceramic materials for drug delivery drugs applications. Three delivery routes were investigated; abuse-deterrent oral formulation, inhalation, and novel ceramic crystals with drug entrapped. A geopolymer matrix was developed in order to withstand non-medical abuse such as crushing, snorting, extraction etc. READ MORE

  3. 3. Microgels as drug delivery vehicles : loading and release of amphiphilic drugs

    Author : Yassir Al-Tikriti; Per Hansson; Magnus Bergström; Matthew Libera; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microgel; amphiphilic drug; phase separation; micropipette; Raman microscopy; controlled release; drug delivery; SAXS; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; Farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Polyelectrolyte microgels are used as delivery vehicles for amphiphilic drugs in, e.g., treatments of liver cancer by a method called trans-arterial chemoembolization. READ MORE

  4. 4. Nanoparticles for multifunctional drug delivery systems

    Author : Jian Qin; Mamoun Muhammed; Paavo K J Kinnunen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; drug delivery; stimuli-sensitive; SPION; PLLA; PNIPAAm; gold; MRI; cytotoxicity; Pluronic; phase transfer; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi;

    Abstract : Multifunctional drug delivery systems incorporated with stimuli-sensitive drug release, magnetic nanoparticles and magnetic resonance (MR) T2 contrast agents is attracting increasing attention recently. In this thesis, works on polymer nanospheres response to temperature change, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION)/polymeric composite materials for MR imaging contrast agents are summarized. 5. 5. Biopharmaceutical Evaluation of Intra-arterial Drug-Delivery Systems for Liver Cancer : Investigations in healthy pigs and liver cancer patients

    Author : Elsa Lilienberg; Hans Lennernäs; Erik Sjögren; Niklas Axén; Helen M. Burt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; in vivo release; drug delivery systems; local delivery; drug disposition; doxorubicin; hepatocellular carcinoma; transarterial chemoembolization; transarterial chemotherapy infusion; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Abstract : There are currently two types of intra-arterial drug-delivery system (DDS) in clinical use in the palliative treatment of primary liver cancer. The chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX) can be formulated into a drug-in-lipiodol emulsion (LIPDOX) or a microparticulate drug-eluting bead system (DEBDOX). READ MORE
