6. Antidepressant drug effects in vivo: Focus on pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic responses in different experimental paradigms
Abstract : Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic activities of the antidepressants venlafaxine (VEN) and citalopram (CIT) were investigated in the portacaval shunted (PCS) rat, a model of chronic hepatic encephalopathy (HE), and normal/control rats. The levels of VEN in serum and brain were higher in PCS rats than in controls after a single injection and chronic treatment with VEN (10 mg/kg). READ MORE

7. Safety and Efficacy Modelling in Anti-Diabetic Drug Development
Abstract : A central aim in drug development is to ensure that the new drug is efficacious and safe in the intended patient population. Mathematical models describing the pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) properties of a drug are valuable to increase the knowledge about drug effects and disease and can be used to inform decisions. 8. Antimicrobial peptides in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory conditions : Preclinical studies of mechanism of action, efficacy, and safety
Abstract : The rapid emergence of antibiotic-resistant microbes worldwide and the urgent need of new antimicrobial agents have stimulated interest in antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) as new therapeutics for treatment of infectious diseases. AMPs are present in all living species and constitute an important part of the innate immune system in multicellular organisms, including humans. READ MORE

9. Therapeutic Drug Monitoring in Psychiatry : Some aspects of utility in clinical practice and research
Abstract : Background and objectives: Several new psychoactive drugs for the treatment of psychiatric disorders have been introduced onto the market since the late 1980s. Basic aspects of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics (PK) are investigated before approval for general prescription. READ MORE

10. The neuromodulatory effect, safety and effectiveness of vagus nerve stimulation
Abstract : Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is an adjunctive palliative neuromodulatory treatment for drug resistant epilepsy (DRE) and chronic depression. It has also been proposed as a treatment for many other conditions such as chronic pain, heart failure, and Alzheimer’s disease. READ MORE
