  1. 6. Studies of drug resistance in minor HIV quasispecies

    Author : Halime Ekici; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The main objective was to study drug resistance mutations (DRM) in the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) gene of minor HIV-1 quasispecies, not detectable with standard techniques. Sensitive allele-specific PCR (AS- PCR) and next-generation sequencing (NGS) were developed to study resistance to drugs of relevance in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC); the nucleoside analogue RT inhibitor (NRTI) lamivudine (3TC) and the non-nucleoside RT inhibitors (NNRTIs) efavirenz (EFV) and nevirapine (NVP). 2. 7. Drug resistance associated proteins in human breast cancer

    Author : Manuel de la Torre; Uppsala universitet; []

  3. 8. Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producing Enterobacteriaceae : aspects on detection, epidemiology and multi-drug resistance

    Author : Maria Tärnberg; Lennart Nilsson; Hans-Jürg Monstein; Håkan Hanberger; Kristian Riesbeck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Beta-lactam antibiotics are the largest and most commonly used group of antimicrobial agents in Sweden as well as world-wide. They show very good tolerability and many of the drugs can be administrated orally. READ MORE

  4. 9. Topoisomerase II and drug resistance in leukemic cells

    Author : Rong Zhou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Mechanisms for resistance to chemotherapy include among other, elevated p-glycoprotein (p-gp) level and/or altered topoisomerase II level (topo II). The present study focused on topo 11 expression, and the enzyme related in vitro drug sensitivities in human myeloid leukemic K562 cell line and isolated peripheral mononuclear cells from patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), and with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). 5. 10. Kinetics of HIV-1 drug resistance mutations in vivo

    Author : Veronica Svedhem Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HIV-1; anti-retroviral therapy; drug resistance; therapy failure; rebound; persistence; wildtype virus; SPCR; minor population;

    Abstract : Antiretroviral therapy (ARV) exert a selective pressure on HIV-1 and may select viral drug resistant strains which have competitive advantage in the presence of the drug. Knowledge about the appearance and disappearance of these mutations is important when choosing ARV. READ MORE
