11. Development and Application of Methods based on DOAS and FTIR Absorption Spectroscopy for Atmospheric Research
Abstract : Over the past decades concern about the environmental impact on our atmosphere from human activities has been constantly increasing. From the recognition of local industrial pollution in the first part of this century, over regional scale problems related to urbanisation and growth of traffic systems to global environmental problems such as climate change and stratospheric ozone depletion. 12. Transient Spray Mode Fuel Injection
Abstract : This research examines the pivotal role of transient fuel spray in internal combustion engines, primarily focusing on their influence on dual-fuel (DF) engines. In the case of dual-fuel (DF) engines functioning in a gas mode, the controlling of the primary fuel’s ignition is usually managed through the direct injection of liquid pilot fuel. READ MORE

13. Remobilization of terrestrial carbon across temporal and spatial scales deduced from the Arctic Ocean sediment record
Abstract : Arctic warming is expected to trigger large-scale environmental change including remobilization of terrestrial organic carbon (terrOC). Permafrost and peatland systems contain more than twice as much carbon as the atmosphere, and may upon destabilization expose large amounts of their carbon to microbial decomposition and release climate-forcing greenhouse gases (GHG). 14. Materials Science of Multilayer X-ray Mirrors
Abstract : This thesis treats the reflective and structural properties of multilayer structures. Soft X-ray multilayer mirrors intended as near-normal incidence reflective optics and polarizers in the water window (λ=2.4-4.4 nm) are the main focus. READ MORE

15. Adaptive time-integration for goal-oriented and coupled problems
Abstract : We consider efficient methods for the partitioned time-integration of multiphysics problems, which commonly exhibit a multiscale behavior, requiring independent time-grids. Examples are fluid structure interaction in e.g., the simulation of blood-flow or cooling of rocket engines, or ocean-atmosphere-vegetation interaction. READ MORE
